With the economy the way it is,many retirees are seeking other countries where their dollars can last longer.Where would you like to go.I would love to retire somewhere in Southeast Asia.Thailand,Cambodia,or Laos.

May 7,2007-USCIS received I-129f
July 24,2007-NOA1 was received
April 21,2008-K-1 visa denied.
June 3,2008-waiver filed at US Consalate in Panama
The interview went well,they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver
March 3,2009-US Consulate claims they have no record of our December visit,nor Manuel's interview
March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !
April 3,2009-US Counsalate asks for more court documents that no longer exist !
June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !


June 15,2010-They called Manuel in to take his fingerprints again,still no decision on his case!
June 22,2010-WAIVER APPROVED at 5:00pm
July 19,2010-VISA IN MANUELITO'S HAND at 3:15pm!
July 25,2010-Manuelito arrives at 9:35pm at Logan Intn'l Airport,Boston,MA
August 5,2010-FINALLY MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 23,2010-Filed for AOS at the International Institute of RI $1400!
December 23,2010-Work authorization received.
January 12,2011-RFE

May 7,2007-USCIS received I-129f

phillipines for me but if i was to chose anywhere else it would be paraguay.. beautifull place and for 300.00 dollars a month you can live a modest life...

I did a report on Paraguay about a year ago. Asuncion, the capital, is the least expensive city in the world (for the 6th year in a row). 20% of Paraguayans live in Asuncion (1 out of every 5).

Where in the world do you want to retire?

I'd rather retire in the good ol' USA, but with the shape my 401K is in I keep my options open. My wife is a Belarusian citizen even though she was born in Russia. We're not really sure if she can reclaim her Russian citizenship based on birth. On top of that, we have never really checked into the laws regarding spousal residency in either country. I'm not really in any position to retire, so I haven't pursued any of these avenues. There are a multitude of issues regarding any retirement in either of those countries, much less what will happen here in the USA with the present situation. For now it is wait and see.

For all you dopers out there in VJ land...here is a photo I took in a rural Belarus village. I saw a lot of this all over the countryside. They make their own samogon (moonshine) too.

I don't drink liquor or smoke weed, but I like a tasty beer from time to time. Beer is cheap in Belarus. Anything in Amsterdam is overpriced and over advertised. 'Nuff said. ;)

My best friend dated a woman from Belarus for years.I thought they were going to get married but she just cleaned out his bank account and kicked him to the curb.Poor guy has some crappy luck with women.

08/17/09: Passed Driving test

08/22/09: Married on beautiful Mackinac Island, MI

08/31/09: Mailed AOS Package

10/20/09: Received AP

10/21/09 Received EAD card

12/7/09 AOS APPROVED!

12/14/09: Green Card arrived in mail. Happy Days!

It's taken 18 months from applying for K1 to receipt of Green Card! Thank God it's over until 12/7/11
