Hi,

I requested a police check (that took FOREVER to come, but finally it did). It was the RCMP police check that requires fingerprints. I only found out later that there was a faster version that you could attain (w/out fingerprints) at your local police station.

In any case, I sent the original in with my DS-230.

When I go for my Green Card interview in Montreal, I know I have to bring a Police Check.

Can it bring a copy of the fingerprint version I received, or should I go to my local police station and get one of those quick documents that say you don't have a criminal record?

Thanks for the input.

Martine

Iif your original is more than a year old at the time of your interview, you'll need a new one.

The one you can get at your local RCMP office is so quick to get and not very expensive, so a month or so before your interview you might want to get one just in case. That's what I would do at least.

Mine is similar except that it does not include my picture. At first I was looking at the half size page paper and was thinking "####### ???" lol

I had it done at some place that does criminal background checks for the GRC here in Montreal. I went to the police station, explained that I needed a background check for a USA K1 visa application and they sent me to that place so I guess that is OK

sorry this might seem to be a silly question, but I am getting ready to send back my packet 3 and I am getting more and more confused with all the information, haha. From what I have read from other people, they sent in the check list, DS-230 part I and completed DS-160 online, that's it, no need to send a copy of police certificate and birth certificate with packet 3. Is this correct?

That's correct, you bring it with you to the interview. CR1 visas work a bit differently and they have to send their documents out before their interview.

Yes my thoughts exactly. What exactly are you applying for?

If you already sent them the police certificate then they have it, so no worries. Otherwise, I'm fairly certain a copy wouldn't work.

I got my certificate from a local police station. All it says is they searched the national database and nothing wrong came up. Its a page long and white... It doesn't have a picture or anything to fancy. I was worried about it and I e-mailed Montreal and they told me it was sufficient. From what i've heard, they aren't too picky about police checks as long as nothing suspicious comes up on it.

so for those who have already gotten their police check...or name check whichever one from RCMP, how long did it take? and does anyone know of any way to have it expedited

You can do the electronic fingerprint scan... and if you're clear, you should have the report back in about a week. It costs more, but if timing is of concern, that might be an option. That's what my fiance' did.

Are you talking about a fingerprint check or a name check? Are you in Canada?
