We recently received our NOA2 (woohoo). So we are waiting for Package 3. I am seeing that on everyone's time lines that they somehow know where their petition is at every moment. I know that it was NVC received because they sent me a letter in the mail. How do I know when they sent it out and when it was Consulate received? Do I have to call the NVC for that information?

Thanks,

Matu&Kris

Not sure where to post this, but I just read on the US Dept of State website that things are being handled differently than before. Our consulate is the one in Rio de Janerio Brasil. According to the website, because I filed my paperwork for my fiance here in the USA, I will be receiving my packet from NVC rather than the consulate. I am confused by this. Does it mean that I will have to submit all of my fiances paperwork such as police certificates, etc.? Or will he submit them at the interview in Brasil? I know that I can wait for instructions from NVC, but I would like to have all of the paperwork ready so it can be submitted immediately. Has anyone been through this process? Apparently the process just changed at the end of February. Also, will NVC send me a notice when they receive my file? Thank you so much for your help.

No you will not receive nothing from NVC.The thing you 'll know if you call the NVC at this number(603)334-0700 is when they receive and sent to Rio de Janeiro your process. When the Rio de Janeiro receive the process they will contact your finace in Brasil to send the packet 4 and she has to do all the paperworks by her self ,but you can help her to fill out the forms. For the police certificates she has to go to do so here in Brazil ok .You can check the web site embaida do Rio de Janeiro and find out all the forms for fiance....hopefully this can help you... congratulations for you approval and please fillout your timeline...

I thought this thread will be the right place for me to write and ask about NVC.

It has been 3 weeks since we received our NOA2, but I have not received any news or mail from NVC that saying they receive our petition.

Is this a normal time waiting for 3 weeks ? I saw other filers got their NVC letter within few days after NOA2 and their foreign fiance/e receive the Packet 3 not too long after being reviewed in NVC.

Appreciate your reply and answer . Thank you everyone!

The people whose NVC date is a few days after their NOA2, is because they called NVC. I'm not sure how long the letter takes..

You really don't and trying to will raise your blood pressure until blood flows from your ears.

In our case, I used the date on the letter sent to me by NVC for the "NVC received date", it was "back-filled" based on that information. For the "NVC sent" date I added 7 days as the letter said it would be forwarded "within a week" It could have been 5 days or 8 days, but 7 days is close enough. For the "consulate received date" I used the date they first acknowledged in an email they had the petition, again, it may have been a few days earlier, but for the purposes of giving other members an "idea" of the process, it is more than sufficient.

Trying to narrow it any further is only frustrating and not worth the effort.

Apparently there is another "misinformation hotline"! You will get a letter from NVC saying the forwarded your petition to the embassy. You will not send anything to NVC. You have a K-1 visa. SOME visas, DO send documents to the NVC, K-1s do not.

You can get your best answers and most accurate information here. And faster than waiting on hold for NVC or USCIS.
