International law interfering with a sovereign nation regarding issues of proper identification? Are you kidding? Can't even get agreement internationally on human rights issues.... I think you need to talk to Mrs. Kirchner about this.....

Yeah, sure. Its called the "The International Get decent identification when you become an adult (age 18) and keep it current all your life Act" The UN will call a meeting to get to the bottom of this right away. A couple million people a year die from genocide and ethnic cleansing but the UN will jump right on someone not having an ID card. This is one of those things where I have to say "and you waited until now because...???????????????" I mean is this not something most adults have whether they plan to marry a foreign national or not? Silly me, I have had a valid passport since I was 14!!!! You go through the petition process, the interview process and now SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!! "I don't have a national ID card, Oops, maybe the UN will come to my rescue? D'ya think?"

Well, the visa has not been issued because you do not have a poilce certificate because you do not have a national ID and now the validity of the visa petition will expire in far less than 17 months and you will have to start all over. I hope you are somehow getting extensions to the visa petition. Yes? You thought of that?

Now I don't know anything about Argentina, but I have very much experience with Eastern European government agencies and I would never wait 17 months for anything, rarely more than 17 minutes. And I never needed the UN to sort it out.

Some of the members of this forum, and a vast number of people worldwide, want to move to the United States because they believe that they will live a better life. Depending of where you come from, a "better life" can become an understatement or overstatement once you get to the US. Nevertheless, the sure thing is that the United States has a set of laws that allows its citizens to live in a decent way. There are things that could be better, but overall, the United States is a great country, that in the majority of cases, has a great respect for its citizens.

This cannot be said of countries where you your rights an liberties are constantly put under discussion. The right to have a national id is equivalent to your duty to have one. Therefore it is not acceptable to wait 17 months to get a national id. People may not understand the impotence of having to deal with governments that are only a democracy on paper. The reality is that corrupt governments that systematically undermine the economic stability of a country like Argentina, Venezuela etc are systematically decreasing the civil liberties and rights of their citizens. Obtaining a national id may be only one small thing, but there are many other actions that governments like this do to undermine the constitutional liberties of its citizens.

Not having a national id, may mean, that you are not allowed in most cases to travel outside of the country. Thus, this is limiting your liberties of free travel. This limitation has only been seen in times of war, or in a dictatorial and communist regime. In any civilized and democratic country you have the right to move freely and to leave the country as many times you want. Denying to you the means of freely travel, is the same as denying your rights as a free citizen.

Therefore, I deem really inappropriate to "attack" a person who is not able to obtain what is legally his or her right to obtain. This is not about why you do not have it. This is about why it was not given to you yet

What a horrible sarcastic and cruel post you've made to someone who is obviously frustrated by this process and is awaiting the final stages of their visa application. I have no idea why you responded other than to belittle the OP!

You are right. Saying "Oh, poor thing, that is terrible" would be better.

And please do not preach to me about democracies on paper, I lived and worked too long in such an atmosphere in the former Soviet Union, in constant daily co-ordination with various branches of the government, before and after the Orange Revolution, and I know one thing is a fact about disfunctional democracies. They are this way because they are corrupt at every level, from the President to the Town Clerk, to the mailman, to the dogcatcher and most Americans have no clue how to deal with such a thing. They have no clue such a thing exists. You learn to get things done, and it isn't by whining to some international agency that doesn't give a hoot. Now if anyone that had a clue, and I am hoping his fiance does if she lives in that country, read my answer then I have given him exactly the answer he needs within the terms of service of this site, to get his ID

Unlike the "Oh-you-poor-thing" answers. Unfortunately when giving more specific instructions in the past I have been officially admonished by the manageent of the site. I would hope one would figure it out. Maybe not.

In disfunctional, democracies-on-paper-only countries, you DO NOT wait. If you choose to wait, you will wait and wait and wait. You will wait until you follow the procedure for that country. If you choose not to wait, you will receive your ID quickly. Like maybe today. In case you still don't get the hint, it is common for retirees in Ukraine, not to get their pension checks. They will wait and wait and wait...much more than 17 months. Horror! Poor things! What will the UN do? Nothing. Giving $1 to the postman will insure prompt delivery with a smile. Sheeesh. Some people's kids.

Also, I am a pretty helpful kind of guy. I like to help people who have been through the same thing as me, but I am, admittedly, intolerant of adults who do not keep their own business in order and then whine for some nameless, faceless government agency to come to their rescue. Now this is a case of TWO adults, one from each country, getting an ID card. And you think that anyone is better equipped to do so than the two responsible adults involved?

Sort it out and get your ID before your visa petition expires

Really? D'ya think the FSU did things like this? The more corrupt a government is, the more they limit the rights of their citizens (and I am not in a position to state the constitutional rights of Argentinians), the EASIER it is to get what you want. The bad thing about corrupt governments like this is they tend to keep the population poor and the resources of the country are squandered by a few at the top. The good thing is you can get anything you want when you want it.

My post, "attacking" someone gave them the answer they needed, if they have a clue. Other posts here, defending the honor of the OP give him nothing, and only atatck me for being direct in that this is something that could easily have been fixed long ago.

There is a way we can answer people and voice our opinions on matters without such abusive comments. Let's all try a little harder to do just that.

Tuty, I can not believe you are still waiting for that darn ID! I'm so sorry sweetheart. :( I know you're posting mostly out of frustration because you've been here long enough now that I have to believe if you could have gotten this silly thing sooner, you would have. I wish I had advice for you other than to stay strong..but I really don't. I suppose each Country has their own standards ...as unfair as they may be. I do wish you much luck and strength as you continue to fight for this!

I agree with Kim.

Now I don't know anything about Argentina
Then why contribute, let alone in such a tone, to this thread?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
