Buttermilk in Brazil?

our cake is better. we have all kinds and they're usually filled with yummy stuff, while in the states there's usually no filling and that yucky white greasy frosting.

I LOVE the puddins....yummmm... I guess it is most similar to what we call Flan (which is actually spanish) or Creme Caramel in the US. But wow.....LOVE! I told my sogra that I would teach her how to make fresh cookies if she taught me how to make that! It's not that we don't really have that in the US, but that we NEVER make it at home! I'm really really enjoying learning how to make all of these foods in different ways!

For the chocolate chip cookies yesterday I had to buy actual chocolate bars and then break them up into little pieces since they don't sell chocolate chips here...but, of course, doing it that way worked just the same! I even used Hershey's chocolate, because it's the cheapest kind of chocolate here!

Yummmmmmm...yes, exactly! That is what I am going to learn how to make within the next week or so!

I love going to the -what we would call in America- all you can eat restaurants...cause when we dessert cart comes around, you can go wild!!!

It's so easy to prepare:

Recipe:

Calda:

1/2 cup water

1 cup sugar

Pudim

1 can sweetened condensed milk

2 cans (same can measure as condensed milk) of milk

3 eggs

Calda

In a pot melt sugar until it's brown. Ad 1/2 cup water and stir. Let it boil until it's smooth and it starts to get thick. Put on a pan like this

.

Set aside. Let it cool off.

Pudim

Combine ingredients in a blender. Pour this mixture into the pan and place it in the center of a baking pan/dish with water (i think it's called water bath) . Bake the pudim for about 1.5 hours. It will turn golden brown on top and start separating from the sides of the pan. Let it cool to room temperature and place in refrigerator, preferably overnight (at least 6 hours).

Just before serving, run the tip of a knife around the inside of the mold. Place a deep platter over the mold and invert. The pudim should slide out easily.

u usually have to pay for each dessert and they're extremely expensive. that's how all u can eat restaurant make money, with expensive beverage and dessert to compensate.

it's better wheb u have all you can eat that has a dessert buffet included, then u can go wild.

Yeah, I was referring to the ones that have desserts included. The ones that you have to pay extra for desserts make me cry

Yeah the pudins are easy to make and tasty, nothing like the packaged flans they sell in US.

Nessa, the cakes drive me crazy here as well, pound cakes with cream cheese or regular sugar frosting, so boring! Of course our homemade cakes are not the same as the tortas we buy for b-days, but still they're more varied than vanilla cakes.

I have another batch of chocolate chip cookies in the oven right now. The first ones were a hit! I just sent my mom the recipe for the pudim and she said she's going to try to make it. I'm trying to bring a bit of the US to Brazil and a bit of Brazil to the US!

really? not much into lemon or lime pie. it's my dad's favorite, that and quindim. OMG it's been so long i haven't had quindim, yum.

I like quindão, but yes, lemon meringue or key lime pie are my favorites. Then again I love them all, but from pies you see me picking that one more often. The one dessert I don't like is tiramissu.

I haven't tried this here in Brazil (or seen it that I can think of)...but it's interesting that my mother (who is Italian) makes something exactly like this. Then again, there are lots of Italians in Brazil too
