Clear and present danger is a good movie, Harrison ford plays that role better than Alec Baldwin did in Hunt for the red october or Ben Afleck in sum of all fears.

As for the title, movies that the critics thought were good but weren't? English Patient!! I have tried 3 times to watch this movie because I love movies but I just can't get through it. I have heard that the curious case of benjamin button, while critically acclaimed, is awfully boring too.

Top Gun, that excuse for a movie still irks me :), but only because I paid good money to see it, and was so bored I walked out about half way through.

Wasn't aware Top Gun was ever critically acclaimed? That whole volleyball scene...#######!

Thoughts on the Bourne series or Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger?

I like the bourne movies. Granted I love the books more because they were set in a different era and carlos the jackel was the antagonist, but the movies are a solid representation. The action sequences and car chases are some of th best around. Add to that Matt Damon, who I think is a very good actor...alongside the likes of Brian Cox and you have a decent set of movies. The second is better than the first (unlike the books where the supremacy is the weakest of the three).

The bond movies are a bit up and down. I love them for what they are but Qos was terrible. Just one long chase scene, there is a car chase, a motorbike chase, a boat chase, a plane chase. A plane chase? By that point i wanted to leave. The ending is completely contrived and has very little by way of plot, let alone decent exposition.

Worst bond movie ever!!

No way - view to a kill was the worst by far.

I have a soft spot for it although I couldn't justify why.

So do I - but I can't overlook that Moore swapped his aftershave for Ben Gay. Even had stunt men doing the fist-fights so he wouldn't throw his hip out.

It also had that silly car-parachute chase in Paris and that Beach Boys surfing thing at the beginning.

Didn't see the Bourne series at all...

But the two Clancy-based movies were wayyyyyy butchered from the original novels.

Another total flop was 1991's Memoirs of an Invisible Man:

  • only character names matched those in H.F. Saint's novel
  • ham-handed moviemaking, particularly the title character--after he's accidentally rendered invisible--casting reflections and shadows

My suspicion is that you like Tanya Roberts

I thought Licence To Kill was worst of Bonds, followed closely by Living Daylights (well, I do term Tim Dalton as "Junk Bond" anyway...though he was ok in 1973's Mary Queen Of Scots as Darnley)

My bad, I took the title to mean blockbuster material, big advertising budget, the whole 'let's work up the potential audience' deal. Still sucked :D

Tim Dalton was doing in the 80's what Daniel Craig is doing with the character now. At the time it was so far away from what an entire generation had come to expect from James Bond, that the humourless action alienated a lot of people from the franchise. It was just unfortunate that he only got to make two movies because of that legal ####### with Kevin McClory.

At the time it was nice to see Bond dangerous again - after so many movies where he was fighting his way through the stories with double-entendre and a bad dye job that made him look like he was wearing a toupee. Plus he was old enough in the last 4 films to be the uncle of those girls.

Still like Moore's films a lot but View to a Kill (and Octopussy) are hard to watch as anything other than pure comedy.

Octopussy at least was better than Never Say Never Again which came out in the same year - and it did have some good action sequences. Of course it also had James Bond dressed up in a clown outfit, which said a lot about where Moore had taken the character.

Clear and present danger is a good movie, Harrison ford plays that role better than Alec Baldwin did in Hunt for the red october or Ben Afleck in sum of all fears.

It was worse than Independence Day - only because Top Gun had that masturbatory 80's feel.
