6 month rule for travel outside of US Question?

My husband has been in his native country, Costa Rica for quite some time now and is returning home to me next month. It just dawned on me that his date of return is 6 months AND 3 DAYS from the date he left. Are they strict on the 6 month rule for re-entry? Will 3 days make a difference. He did not ask for permission to stay longer as we did not expect him to stay this long. Please advise. Thanks!

Hmmm. Well, I went and did a bit of research because the DCF threw me but it seems the answer is still the same. A legal permanent resident can leave the US for up to one year. Link

Not a problem for a green-card HOWEVER if planning on citizenship, this WILL reset the residency requirement, and will have to wait for 3 years after that trip to file N-400.

USCIS is strict on the residency requirements for citizenship.
