Hey Tom,

Not to be a copycat or anything, but I also am flying to O'Hare, also on Thursday 16th (9:20am flight) and I was gonna ask exactly the question you have... so, can't give any advice I'm afraid, but I look forward to any suggestions from the othe VJ-ers. :)

For what it's worth I also thought of bringing the whole folder of copies/evidence I took to the Embassy, just in case they ask for any evidence relating to my fiancee or our case.

Anyone know which line to go to when you arrive, too? Am I right in thinking it's the 'Immigrant' line?

Tom - I'll keep my eye out for a fellow X-Ray bearer.

Cheers,

Jim

Andy flew into Chicago, only as a K-3 visa holder.

He had with him: his passport, brown envelope, and all of our supporting docs.

He did not have with him his x-ray(was in his suitcase) they don't need it as your going thru the POE

He did not need any of our supporting docs as everything is in the brown envelope, but we thought better safe than sorry.

The officer asked him a few questions like....

Where does your wife live?

when did you get married?

What is your wife's middle name?

But all the time asking the questions he wasn't even looking at the papers to see if Andy was answering correctly...lol I think they just like being nosey haha

About the line to go in I'm not sure on that, Andy is still in bed so I can't ask him but when he gets up I will find out and let you know

Cheers,

Patricia

Morning_75 no probs. Im flying out of Manchester at 10:30 with BMI and landing in Chicago just after 1pm but i wont have my X-Ray with me as im going to put it in with my luggage.

Patricia i will appreciate any information you can give us. Could you ask Andy not only what line he went to but how long it took them to process and let him through ?? I have an 8 hour wait between connection but those POE officials at Chicago arent my fav people so want to spend as little time with them as possible.

Rich_J thanks for the link its much appreciated.

Thanks, Tom

Tom,

It took Andy about 20 to 30 min to get through immigration and he went through the Non-US citizen line.

You should have more than enough time with an 8 hour lay over, and Chicago has not been Andy's most favourite POE either....lol

Went to Chicago using CR1 (OHare intl airport) last Thursday. Below is the experience:

1. There are "new immigrant line" but it was close then. So, your best bet is just use either the visitor or permanent resident/citizen line. Both are long wait.

2. They took me to a small office where they processed new immigrants. They took the brown envelope & passport & did not ask for x-ray (I did not have it with me). I was fingerprinted & was told that the immigrant visa with stamp on it will be my greencard. I was also informed that I can straight away apply for work. The lady also mentioned about filing to remove the conditional residence status & that within 6 months my green card will arrive in the mail.

It was painless & the process was smooth. Hubby was waiting outside with the huge grin. The whole process took me about 45 minutes (30 mins of waiting in immigration line, 10 mins of processing)

Good luck to everyone !
