A question on behalf of a friend

I know, I know, I'm a Canuck and should get back to my own regional forum. I just thought maybe someone here might have a minute to spare to help a friend of mine.

I've got a friend, from the US, who wants to go visit her boyfriend who lives in England.

I was wondering what the tourist visa requirements are, if any, for such a trip?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

March 13, 2009--Visa application handed to the post office.

March 16, 2009--Visa application received by Vermont Service Centre at 11:01 am. Let's hope that he actually put in everything he thought he did and they don't send it back to us!!

March 23, 2009--Got the whole package back. The cheque was apparently filled out incorrectly, thanks to the fact that his moronic flatmates helped him and instructed him wrong for the first cheque he ever filled out.

March 30, 2009--NOA1

August 12, 2009--Touched

September 1, 2009, received Package 1 from Montreal--but where is our NOA2???

There's no need to segregate yourself...

UK is a VWP country so no visa is required - assuming your friends has never had any issues (overstays/bans etc)..

The person asked about visiting England not the USA.

No visa is essential for England the USA but as with the US, make sure that ties to US can be proved and not looking to enter the UK to find work etc.

I think what was meant was that the VWP is specific for citizens of certain countries to travel to the United States. You don't travel under the VWP if travelling from the US to the UK. Visa free travel to the UK comes under the EU (Schengen) visa list.

Visa travel to the UK does NOT come under the Schengen agreement. Thenk that is for some, but not all, European countries.

Needs are a Passport and Money.

Looked a the link, to be fair it does say the UK is not part of it. Nor is the US. Not quite sure why it was mentioned.

I was supposed to link the whole page. The US is an annex II country which allows visa free access to the EU for 90 days, and is in turn is a member of the Schengen acquis of the EU. It also says that there is a 'positive visa list of countries (annex II, also known as White Schengen List) from whose citizens no visa is required to enter the territory of the EU member states (of which the UK is one) for a period of maximum 90 days.'

I think the point I was trying to make was you don't travel to the UK under the VWP. Obviously I failed miserably.

The UK controls its own non EU immigration issues.

Wel it does at the moment anyway.
