Hello all,

I will be getting married in November, 28, through the church in Colombia. I have all of the necessary paperwork and evidence needed to submit for a k-1 Visa this week. My fiancee and i got to thinking if it was maybe easier if we got married this upcoming May civilly as far as the Visa goes.

November is 8 months away if I start the K-1 now, and would be 6 months if I start the k-3 in May.

What do you guys suggest? is a k-3 more certain than a k-1 to get?

Thank you

Either one will work, one over the other is not really a problem.

If you satisfy the instructions/rules of either one, you will get it, simple as that.

You will have to pick one option that matches what you want to do.

Remember - the timing varies, some of them get down faster than others, where others are still in process, for years...

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

You need to do one or the other as it stands and the way you wrote you already have your wedding plans set in Colombia? If you do the K1 and she comes here then you will have to wait for your AP to be given once you apply for AOS. Here is a link to other Colombians who have been through both, maybe you can get more infomation here to help you choose
