Old news ...

:secret: over 2 years old ....

Still relevant, as it shows that the power of the gun lobby. Just look at how many here react over the mere mention of banning assault rifles?

Look how many react over something they don't know anything about? Even after being repeatedly told what an real "assault rifle" really is ... not the media/hollywood variety :yes:

So only someone who is an 'expert' on a subject is entitled to an opinion here? That's pretty arrogant. You may have more knowledge and experience with the use of firearms, but that doesn't entitle you to presume that your opinion on the political aspects of gun regulation is superior to anyone elses.

I agree one need not be an expert to have an opinion.

Lets have an "informed opinion", do you agree?

This short vid (by a policeman) will help anyone understand why his position was flawed when he spoke of "assault rifle" as being different than hunting rifle.

It will also help people who are not into guns "what" an assault weapon is.

I'm just asking questions about the OPs choice of posting old news ... what is his true agenda?

check laws in regards to hunting requirements for various calibers and magazine restrictions. what defines an "assault-style"? "sniper style"? miltiary style? is it the firearm? cosmetics? mechanical properties?

organizations drop people who are/were spokes persons when the person and organization no longer see eye-to-eye. It's not the first time this has happened ... won't be the last.

Natty, it's the gun lobby that continues that false premise - that there are no real distinction between a hunting rifle and one used for combat. While I'm not an expert on guns, I doesn't require a self appointed firearms expert to understand the differences, at least on some level.

who is over-reacting, natty?

i think, an organization that states

example of what can happen to anyone, including a "fellow gun owner," who challenges the right of Americans to own or hunt with assault-style firearms...

is a threat and facist in nature...

i am not against the NRA..just some of their over the top avenues of trying to keep the rank and file in line and america

some people just like to blather about some topic without providing any real details about what their issue is, natty.

An assault rifle...

(1) A cartridge of smaller dimensions than the standard rifle cartridges used in World Wars I and II, and somewhat less power;

(2) The capability to be fired full-automatic, that is like a machine gun;

(3) An in-line stock design and pistol grip, with gas cylinder usually above rather than below the barrel, so that the recoil will come straight back toward the firer's shoulder and thus make the weapon more controllable in full-automatic fire; and

(4) A large-capacity detachable magazine, 20 or 30 rounds or more.

1) this covers a lot of modern cartridges that were developed after the war. think about that. also what defines "somewhat"?

2) per this definition, you've been promoting a lie in regards to the AR-15 etal.
