I was looking at the Packet 3 forms online last night, and on one of them (DS-156K I think) it said on the bottom we need to provide proof of engagement? Do we send that with Packet 3, or take it to the interview? Thanks!

Only send DS forms and the checklist back. They won't ask to see proof of engagement or relationship in London, but you can take it to the interview if it makes you feel better.

The reason I ask is because at the bottom of the form, it lists various things to send with the form, and that's one of the things. So do we just disregard that?

The form is generic for every consulate in the world, but each has their own procedures of how they handle the application and interview for the visa. This is a good list of things you will be asked to show at interview time. http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/docs169.html

And you will notice on that page:

Important: These documents must not be mailed to the Embassy. You will be required to furnish the documents on the day of your visa interview

Although the London Embassy typically does not ask for things like proof of engagement and ongoing relationship, you should still bring them with you, just in case. Better to be safe than sorry, because occasionally, they do ask for those things.

OK one more question! I was looking at the US Embassy's website, and for K-1s, it says something about DS-2000?? But I haven't seen anything mentioned about that form on here. Here is the webpage I saw the information on...http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/fprocessing.html

Do we really need that form? Thanks!

London started updating their website around the first of the year but it sucks as far as finding things. It's like they changed pages that used to have links and info but forgot to link all the new things together.

Here's a checklist to send back http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/forms...t_Readiness.pdf

And here's an old bookmarked link for forms. I haven't even seen a navigation to get you to that page anymore. Looking at the DS-2000, it's just a page talking about the affidavit of support and not a checklist at all. Perhaps it was a typo and they mean DS-2001

London forms: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/.../visaforms.html

Oh and to further confuse you, this is a different version of the checklist, but it has a few things added which they don't explain.

Absolutely. People should never just dismiss it because, as a rule, it is not asked for. ;)

I think it is used if you are fulfilling the affidavit requirements with your own funds.

does this mean the USC's funds, or UK person? I am the USC.

Here's the basics that I know. You (USC sponsor) don't really and truly have to file an I-134. That DS 2000 page kinda outlines at the bottom the kind of affidavit a sponsor can write on their own. But if you read all the things you must include with your DIY affidavit, then you realize it's alot easier to do the I-134 which covers it all. They also show how a UK citizen can use their own funds. Income for the UK person would have to be shown to continue in the US. I guess if they had hundreds of thousands of cash, that would work as showing assets.

BUT to get by the interview with the least amount of bother, I would suggest the USC fill out an I-134 and submit the most recent complete tax return (which includes your W2 form(s) or a tax transcript from the IRS. And provide 1 or 2 additional pieces of evidence of your income like a letter from employer, copies of recent pay stubs, list and evidence of assets like savings accounts, stocks, bonds, etc. London has pretty much come to expect those kinds of things and a DIY affidavit might make them get out of their routine if you know what I mean. And getting them to accept the UK persons money as evidence doesn't always go smoothly. Some have shown they have a house for sale, but with today's economy, selling that house may not happen so the money wouldn't positively be there for use in the US.

I'm not sure if you have the new link the Embassy provide in Packet 3. The IV 15 check list and all the forms required are in the upper right hand box. http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/iv_15.html

You get to this page through clicking through to Fiance(e) visa and the on this page http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/...processing.html you then click on the badly placed link in the 'Instructions for Applicants Applying For Visas in London' box on the right hand side.

:P I'm wearing technically what Knight refers to as a promise ring, but I sent him a man-version of one too (to ward off wayward women from hitting on him. It's not him I'm worried about, it's THEM!...or not really, I just wanted him to wear a ring as long as he wanted to wear it). I still think of it as an engagement ring, even though he mailed it to me and there wasn't a get-down-on-one-knee proposal.
