As per the Guide, if Passport is more than 6 months old we need to obtain a PCC from Passport Office as well as from Local Police Station. Does this mean we need to obtain 2 PCCs?

Will help further, if anyone from Mumbai-India and already gone through this process can help me on this.

Yes, you are correct. You will need 2 pcc. I am not sure whats the procedure to obtain pcc in mumbai. Others who went through mumbai can shed some light on this.

Good luck!

Hi

I recently got my PCC's from Mumbai. You need two PCC's one from the passport office located at Worli & the other from the CID office near Cama Hospital.

For the Local PCC, you have to submit a form (available on the Mumbai Police Website) at the CID office along with some evidences like you Birth Certificate, Ration Card, Utility Bill, Letter from society etc. The CID office sends your file to the local police station. In case you have lived in multiple areas in Mumbai then you need to give evidence for all the addresses that you have stayed at from the age of 16 & the file then goes to all the local police stations you have specified.

In order to expedite the process you may want visit the local police station after a week of submitting your form & ask them to give you your file no. Do carry your originals when u visit the police station as they may want to see it.

Take your file no. to the CID office & ask them to give your certificate.

For the Passport PCC - You will have to submit the form at the Passport office. If your passport has been issued at Mumbai you might get the PCC on the same day. But if it is an out station passport then the process is fairly long & you again have to go through the police verification again...

Hope this helps....best wishes

Hi Mesodenia

Thanx a lot for such a detailed and helpful mail.

Yes my Passport was made in Mumbai itself. I had been to the Passport Office a few days and submitted the application for PCC. They asked me to collect it on 30Mar'09 i.e on Monday . but i couldnt make it due to some issues. So i visited them yday 31st mar'09. They said they have posted the PCC alongwith my Passport to my Residence address and should recieve it either today or tomorrow. so hopefully thats done.

Regarding PCC from CID Office - last week i downloaded the form from the Mumbai Police site. while filling it i realised they are asking for a letter from the embassy. Well, we still havent recieved the NOA2 but we are preparing for the NVC process...thus gathering all documents.

Now even though i dont have any letter from the embassy or NVC, i am thinking of amking an attempt at the CID office. According to the docs asked by them, i am taking alongwith me the following:

1. 2 Passport size photographs

2. Attested copies of Passport

3. Attested copies of Ration Card

4. demand Draft of Rs.100/-

In the past 28 years, i have stayed at 2 different places in Mumbai. after reading wat u said i have a few queries...plz help:

1. What documents do i need to provide as proof of my stay at the earlier location in Mumbai?

2. After a week of submitting the Application, do i need to visit just the Current local police station or even the prior one?

3. Your timeline section is blank, so cant figure out wats your current stage....so was wondering did you submit a letter from embassy or NVC?

Hey

You dont need the letter from the embassy. Just take a print out of the page from the US Embassy Website which talks about the PCC.

Along with the above mentioned documents, do carry a utility bill preferably the one in your name & your school leaving certificate. The one which has your DOB.

Regarding your queries

a) You should have stayed in these two different places post the age of 16. If it has been so, you can either get a letter from the old society or a notarized document from your old land lord ( i got both these docs & it was suffice)

B) As your file will go to both the police stations, you will have to get your file nos from both the stations.

If you are staying in your own house/parents house the process is lot more easier. If you know people in the local police stations things may work faster for you.

c) I just got the approval of my visa

best of luck
