Some of the documents (i.e. my hubby's previous divorce decrees) are notarized copies that we got from the county clerk's office, so when I make copies of these for the interview, do I need to get them notarized again or is the clerk's stamp enough? I know this is a silly question but I wanna make sure everything is in order :)

Thanks!

photocopies to leave with the interviewer are fine. They will only want to see the "original" and will only keep it if you don't give them a photocopy.

oh that I know. The thing is though, we didn't have originals of the decrees so we got certified copies from the clerk's office. So my silly question is that when I make copies of those cert. copies from the clerk's, do I need to get them certified AGAIN?

If you are petitioning for a CR1 all your originals or certified copies should have been sent with the DS-230's. The only original documents you will require at your interview is your passport, the interview letter and the sealed medical They will give back all the originals and your brown envelope when you get your Visa at the interview. If you wish to take copies, photocopies, that'll be fine.

I don't know about other people, but the divorce decrees (if applicable) are on the checklist and from what I heard, before you go to the actual interview, you have to give the person in the window all documents from the checklist, so we got them.

I had to include photocopies of James' divorce decrees with our petitions. I took the certified court copies with me to my interview. I also took another set of photocopies with me, just in case they had lost them. They looked at the court copy and handed it back to me. C'est ca.

The copies that we get from the courts with their seal are the only "originals" that we're ever going to get. The issuing office for whatever it is is always going to keep the actual "original". This includes divorce decrees, birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates etc etc etc...

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card
