Quick Question DS230

Do we have to send original/certified copy with DS230 for required document from any please - I mean if I mail it from USA or from India? because I heard from one of my friend if we are sending it from India then we just need to send copy of it not the original and then we need to submit original through VFS (India)?

any suggestion/help?

No, it doesn't matter where the mail comes from.

What matters are ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS (not a photocopy )

OR a

CERTIFIED COPY, that certification coming from the ORIGINAL ISSUING ENTITY.

I suggest your friend is wrong. Tell him I said so.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Have a longish read -

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

It's 'original' plus a photocopy.

Congrats to everyone who had their case completed and interviews set.

I just checked the AVR and it's saying that I am missing documents, I was worried so I talked to a Rep and she said it's about the DS-230, which they haven't even sent me a checklist yet. I just paid last week and sent IV package couple of days ago.

I am a little worried about my parent's Police Certificate since they did not put a thumb print on it..Anybody knows if it's going to be a problem???

I only sent a copy of my dad's military record since he wants to keep all originals, would they want original copies for that too??

Thanks!!!

is AVR saying NVC reviewed packet and we found missing document (not exactly saying DS230 right) and we sent a letter by mail etc? it is same to me as well but I didnt get time to talk with Rep yet. but making sure with you.

Hi Pook, congratulations I believe also you will get the email just in a couple of days. It come to my attention that we both are aplying for our daughters and have very similar timelines. Well the big diference is that her interview will be in Mexico. I havent found yet anyone here in VJ that had passed thru an interview for their little child, I honestly dont know what to expect, because my girl doesnt even talk yet.

Well if you know or had read about a similar experience please let me know.

Good luck and blessings for all of us, hoping we can be with our little ones as soon as possible.

My mom passed medical Tuesday and it confirmed OK, so I am sharing this info I found while preparing:

here's medical exam of aliens official CDC info:

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/panel.htm

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/pdf/ti-alien.pdf - PAGE 4

1. Communicable Diseases of Public Health Significance

The previous law provided for a list of "dangerous contagious diseases" (active tuberculosis, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, infectious syphilis, chancroid, gonorrhea, granuloma inguinale, lymphogranuloma venereum, and Hansen's disease (leprosy)). Applicants with any of these diseases were excludable. The new law refers to these as "communicable diseases of public health significance."

2. Mental Conditions

Under the old law, aliens who were mentally retarded, insane, had had one or more attacks of insanity, were afflicted with psychopathic personality, sexual deviation, or mental defect, or who were narcotic drug addicts or chronic alcoholics, were ineligible for visas and were excluded from admission into the United States. As amended, the Immigration and Nationality Act no longer lists specific physical or mental conditions that automatically exclude an alien but instead requires a determination of whether an alien has a physical or mental disorder and associated behavior that has posed or is likely to pose a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the alien or others.

3. Criminal Behavior

Aliens convicted of certain criminal acts are excludable under other sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act, regardless of their health status. A history of criminal behavior associated with a physical or mental condition that has posed a threat to the property, welfare, or safety of the alien or others, even without a conviction, may be used by the panel physician to determine whether an alien has an excludable condition.

4. Drug Abuse or Addiction

The amendments to the Act replace the previous exclusion of "narcotic drug addicts" with a broader category: "drug abuser or addict." The broader category includes aliens who are engaged in the nonmedical use of any substance named in section 202 of the Controlled Substances Act, as amended (21 U.S.C. 812) (appendix A).

5. Alcohol Abuse or Dependence (Alcoholism)

The Act as amended does not refer explicitly to alcoholics or alcoholism. Evaluation for alcohol abuse or dependence is included in the evaluation for mental and physical disorders with associated harmful behavior.

6. Exclusion on Public Charge Grounds

As under the previous law, in addition to the examination for specific excludable medical conditions, aliens will be examined for other physical or mental abnormalities, disorders, diseases, or disabilities that would be likely to render the alien unable to care for himself or herself or to attend school or work, or that might require extensive medical care or institutionalization. Thus, certain conditions (e.g., mental retardation) that are no longer explicitly listed as excludable conditions may result in exclusion under this section if the consular officer determines that family or other resources to care for the person do not exist.

is AVR saying NVC reviewed packet and we found missing document (not exactly saying DS230 right) and we sent a letter by mail etc? it is same to me as well but I didnt get time to talk with Rep yet. but making sure with you.

It could be that your DS230 package has not been opened and entered into their system. You'll receive an email about it and the notice will tell you what exactly it was. But if they needed additional docs from you, they'll email you again to let you know what they needed from you like the RFE I received 3 days ago. But if it's just about the DS230 that have not arrived yet although surely it's in their mail room, then there's nothing to worry about. My dad's NBI and police clearance were accepted. Not sure if it has fingerprints on it but the NBI form does. Best of luck!

AVR is not really specific about which documents I"m missing, but the Rep said it's about my DS-230 package which I'm sure they haven't recieved yet..it's probably still in their mailroom as what they always said. This seems farily comprehensive -

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/...he_NVC_ShortCut

But - ya gotta read it. Since it's full of detail, I suggest you read it thoroughly, at least three times, take copious notes with paper and pencil.

You can also review the 'original documents' requirement for NVC at http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

Good Luck !

Hey robotica97. I'm glad to see somebody who have same case like me.

I've read from the another website and they told me when your daughter go to interview you(or your husband or both) just need to go with her and they will ask only easy question like Who is this person? Who will you live with? etc.

But if you can't go there you can write the letter and let your mom,dad or sister, brother take her there.

I think you should go there coz everything will be easy for her case.

I already book a ticket to go back for her interview ( Hope we have it before Chismas).

We just pay for her IV Bill today. I got an e-mail today and we pay it after my husband came back from work.

I'll keep my finger cross for both of us and wish you and your daughter will be together very soon.

For my daughter case. Do my husband need to send his document to NVC?

He's Thai but he got US citizen. What do he need to send with DS230 for my daughter case? (he's petitioner)

He said he just send only copy for her case. ( he did the same with my K1 Visa it's fine and we don't have any problem)

Do he need to send original Nationalization or not? Thanks for any advice.

I hope so. We prepare all documents they need already just wait for barcode and we good to go. Wish wish wish we have it in 2 days. Can't wait to see her again ( I just came back from Thailand on her birthday June but I really want to see her again already)

If your daughter too young to speak they will ask you but don't worry. It's easy question. They just want to see her and prove that you are family. Hope all go well with you guys and pray for the best Chismas gift ever!!!
