I believe that guideline has been there for quite some time...It's posted on the travel.state.gov website under "Petitioner Documents"

Applicants in the following visa categories are required to provide 1) an original or certified copy of their Petitioner’s birth certificate and 2) original or certified copy of their Petitioner’s marriage certificate from the Petitioner’s current and all previous marriages.

-Parent of a U.S. Citizen who is at least 21 years old (IR-5)

-Brothers and sisters of United States citizens (F4)

Yeh I see that now. Guess I totaly missed it when I was checking my parents evidence of the list. Oh well no point kicking myself to hard. Whats done is done.

I mailed out the certificates yesterday and they were delivered to NVC this morning at 10:45am. So maybe they will get around to checking them this week.

The sad thing is I could have driven up to Portsmouth yesterday and handed them in to NVC it would have only taken me 1 hour to get there.

Still hoping for July interview.

TayRivers, I have a question. Do you have to send 2 copies of original birth certificate and marriage certificate because you petition your both parents or 1 copy is enough? Please help. I am trying to gather all the documents I need to petition my parents. =)

What you need to do is, you send one complete set of original documents with the Barcode coversheet of one parent and then for the other parent you have to attach to their Barcode Copversheet a photocopy of the original document and write on it "Original Held In Case # LND2009****** " You must do that for every document that is not the original.

Also when you come to paying the AOS Fee Bill you only need to pay this once, when you go on-line to pay it you will see that it says "includes another case" and it will link to other parent's case so that you can print out the Barcode Coversheet for them both.

Hope this helps

i am starting this process soon and going over the expediting procedure (fly thru NVC on this forum link) right now and have a BUNCH of questions....it looks like Tayrivers has been awesome in responding to queries so far....hopefully he/she can help me as well...will soon post questions....the guide to fly thru NVC is very confusing to be honest....my wife will be citizen soon and she want to call her parents from overseas so she is the petitiioner and her parents are beneficiaries...but is it true that she will have to submit our marriage cert. ORIGINAL as well as her birth cert. ORIGINALS? I've dealth with USCIS for long time now and never actually submitted anything original that is why i m asking...please advise. and yes, this is only 1 of many questions i will b asking here...TayRivers - i m going to test ur patience here. LOL.

Yes as the petitioner she will need to submit her original birth certificate and her original marriage certificate when submitting the DS-230 (IV application forms) to the NVC.

They will be returned to her parents at their interview.

Hi Rajthebam:

What TayRivers said is correct and you're right he/she has been really great asnwering people's questions regarding IR5 processes. I wish I had known him/her when I initially applied for my parents!!!

I just wanted to add, since you said you've never submitted originals to USCIS, that your wife does not need to submit her original birth certificate to USCIS, they will accept a photocopy.

And just so your wife knows: to petition parents with form I-130, she does not need to send her own marriage certificate. If your wife petitions her dad, then she needs to send her dad's marriage certificate showing that her dad was married to her mom before she was born...

Good luck!!!

Hi den_y2005, how are you?

Are you just starting the process of petitioning your parents with form I-130 or are you already at the NVC stage?

If you're gathering photocopies of birth and marriage certificates, then I'm assuming you're just starting the process, right?

If you're at the NVC stage, you should do what TayRivers posted above...

Good luck!!!

TayRivers, thanks for the reply. I will keep that in mind.

Picaraz, I am just starting to gather all the documents needed from the beginning til the end. I was just confuse how many original copies of documents to I need to request. This will save me lots of money, shipping, to know the exact no. of copies to request.

I still have a lot of questions to ask for the coming days. =) Hope everybody will not get mad at me.

Hi den_y2005!

I know it was confusing for me when I first applied for my parents but it got easier as I read other people's experiences. Just so you know when you file form I-130, USCIS only requests that you submit photocopies, it's up to you to send originals to them. Good luck to you in this process! Keep reading

Just got the email telling me that the choice of agent has been accepted and to pay the IV bill. Paid it on line. Just have to wait for the status to change to paid then I can print out the coversheet and mail the DS-203.

Almost done with NVC.

Hi TayRivers, i have a question and want to know that how did you setup everything online on email, do they communicate on email, not via letter? or this is you who have to setup online through email.

thanks

Sohail
