Some important news for all people bringing relatives to the US .. or I think it's important anyway ...

My daughter went for her Green Card Interview yesterday in London ...

So, I am the biological father - I'm on the birth certificate so no issue there - and it's my USC wife that is petitioning ing our daughter to come live with us. Yet they said they want to see my GC to prove that I'm "not an illegal alien" ... it's on an official form too "Need to see proof of relative being legally in the country (father)"

The interview was straightforward. No additional info sought, I provided photos of us all together but none asked for. They just gave her a phone number to call when she got a copy of my Green Card (front and back) in order for the courier to pick it the copy and her passport and photos up from her.

So, save yourselves the extra stress ... even if the USC is applying for the child/relative, bring evidence that the USC's spouse is in the country legally.

I should also mention that at no stage does the USCIS or Visa Journey (as far as I can see) make this suggestion.

If they had we would have provided it ... as it stands she just has a 6 day delay so not a biggie, but still ...

Update: my mom's received her 10 years green card after 3 weeks since she arrived here. And last Oct. 12 we applied for her SS# eventhough I checked the DS-230 to assign her # upon she comes here. Good thing we went to SS office and check her status only to find out that her name wasn't in their system yet. So the customer rep. just told us to apply for the new # and it would only take 1 week to receive her ss card.

Crossing our fingers we receive it next week. Good luck to those who still in the journey.

Can anyone tell me the current lead time between an NVC # being assigned / email addresses supplied to NVC agent AND DS-3032/AOS email? My sister has yet to receive anything from NVC via email or postal mail after a week of speaking with an NVC agent.

I called NVC I think a day or 2 days ago and they told me that I-864 doesn't need any notarization. They said it's okay without it, before, the old form need it but not the new form. I have to re-print the last part of this... Anyway, we're not in a hurry... so everything is actually moving faster than we have expected. It's all good. :)

I'm happy and excited that my mom's petition (thru my sister but I'm the paperwork guy) is finally moving thru NVC. Just got emails from NVC containing the AOS Fee instructions, DS-3032 insructions, and the IIN. Paid the AOS and emailed the DS-3032 using VJ Wiki's template (http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Email_DS-3032_form). Will send the paper DS-3032 tomorrow.

I'm planning to have my mom have her medical exam as soon as possible just in case she will need to do a sputum test. For those who had successfully petitioned their relatives from the Philippines - could you give me feedback on the best strategy on this? I've read in the VJ thread that as long as the beneficiary has the NVC case # AND able to tough it out with the security guards at the St. Luke's Medical Ext. Clinic, the medical exam can be done even before the issuance of medical exam / interview appointment? Also, some people said the medical exam is only valid for 3 months but the official US Embassy Manila info page (http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3219.html - Medical Clearance section) says 6 months. Any thoughts?

Lastly, any recommendations for a good travel agent? I'm planning to fetch my mother so I will need to get round-trip tickets for myself and a one-way ticket for her.

regards,

Fredeq574

We are still waiting for my daughter's passport and visa to be returned. When I rang the the DOS (202-663-1225) they confirmed that the Embassy received the missing Green Card scan on the 14th and were "probably processing it right now".

They lady I spoke with didn't give me a return date and wouldn't say if it had been approved but did say it was valid for 6 months ... how would she know that if she wasn't aware that the visa had been issued and was valid for 6 months?

Anyways, she's due to fly out of Ireland to see her Mum in Portugal on the 27th and needs her passport ... so we are sweating it a bit as that's going to be tighter than two coats of paint ...

Stay tuned for more adventures ...

Hey Great Post.

My mom who is a USC she has petitioned for me to go there. Do I need anything other than a copy of her Passport to show that she's legal.

Please advise.

Thanks

yes that would be sufficient or if naturalized... a copy of the certificate.
