The presence of the USC petitioner is not mandatory but for a relatively tough consulate like DR, it is recommended. If you can make it, go for it!

thank you,,, i guess im gonna have to make that trip happen.

also,,, if i cant make it that day,,,,can she reschedule for a couple weeks later?

Hello,

One quick question just to make sure I understand it correctly. I am in the process of submitting the DS-230's for both of my parents that live in El Salvador. Our official language is Spanish. I do not have to translate their birth certificates, marriage certificates or police certificates because they are in Spanish, correct?

Taken from the U.S. Department of State website:

"Translation Requirements

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations"

It just sounds too easy to be true... Usually they require every single document that is not in English to be translated. Can somebody please confirm?

THANK YOU!

Bunnyta

I called the NVC to ask about the translations and was told that I do not need to translate anything if the documents are in the language where the visa is issued. I was kind of surprised myself, maybe I didn't get it right? . If somebody could just share if they had to translate any documents, that would be greately appreciated.

Affidavit of Support question :

I am sending AOS packet for my parents. My income for 2009 was not enough to sponsor so I am adding my husband as Household member form ( I 864 A). So in 1040 ( 2009 ) we filled married filling jointly.

why do you need the driver's license? proof of relationship? isn't the Joint Filing of Tax return enough proof that you're married?

I don't know why you need copies of your passports too. Bank balance letter if you're using assets to reach the 125% poverty guideline.

Pay stub for the last 6 months.

Where does it say that if your spouse is filing 1-864A, he or she has to submit proof of citizenship?

This is taken from the US dept of state website regarding AOS when I-864A is submitted along with I-864:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3203.html

But if you are using a joint sponsor and submitting 2 sets of I-864, yes, you he would need to provide proof of citizenship. See the link below:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3202.html

I am not an expert as I just mailed my AOS packets today but it was clear to me based on those links I just provided that proof of citizenship of your husband is not required if you are the sponsor/petitioner filing I-864 and he is a house hold member filing I-864A.

If somebody has been in this situation please clarify. If what kokobearus says is true, then I really messed it up!

Remember, the USC petitioner will file a I-864 regardless of income. If your joint sponsor lives in the same household as the petitioner, then they will use I-864A. If they live in a separate residence, then they will fill in another I-864.

For your joint sponsor you will need proof of their citizenship/residency. For household member, you will need proof of relationship and same household/residence.

Hi Everyone,

I received the Interview letter for my mom for May 13. I just want to know if she has to schedule the appointment to get her medical or she needs to schedule it herself. Her embassy is in Manila, Philippines. Your response is greatly appreciated.
