Hi Everyone!

Time to get back to VJ forum after a month of adjusting here in my new home. Everything has been going smoothly and everyone has been so nice. Pretty cool to be in a small town;) but seems not the right place to get a job..bummer:( but that's not what I need helping anyway:)

As you may know I arrived here February 18th and now working on the next phase of my journey. From what I hear and understand, policies, systems or laws so to speak are different in every state. I'm hoping to get advices from other people's experiences (especially those who are in Indiana too). Need your two cents about the following:

1. Should I need to get Social Security Number before I get married or after getting married?

2. After which, I'll be processing for AOS. For practical reason I'm thinking of doing EAD first that I can get a job then do AOS after. Is this a wise/doable thing to do in terms of financial consideration?

Looking forward to reading your sound advices.

Thanks in advance and all the best!

FYI - Most of what you're asking doesn't vary by state - SS is a federal entity. Things like Driver's License - marriage requirements are things that tend to vary by state.

1. Should I need to get Social Security Number before I get married or after getting married?

I would do so before getting married - seems to be less of a hassle. It will have your maiden name on it, but you can change that later (once you get your PR/Green Card) - important thing is to get the card/number (in my opinion) although it is not required for AOS.

2. After which, I'll be processing for AOS. For practical reason I'm thinking of doing EAD first that I can get a job then do AOS after. Is this a wise/doable thing to do in terms of financial consideration?

This is not advised - best to file AOS and EAD (even AP) at same time - I understand you may be thinking of saving money but you won't be saving, you'll end up spending more.

If you file for EAD before AOS, you'll pay $340 (plus biometrics fee) and the EAD will expire when your I-94 does (which is 90 days after you arrived in the US). You will be sorely disappointed.

Looking forward to reading your sound advices.

Thanks in advance and all the best![/color]

Hope this helps
