Lovelle Mixon: Oakland Police Shooter Kills 4 Cops

You made a mistake BY, you said that all these cops died in Oakland. I didn't make that up. Now, as for the stats you did cite, I am not sure how they are relevant to the current topic. Perhaps you can enlighten?

This is what I said:

What is even more of a disgrace is the reality that a police officer is killed every 57 hours in Oakland.

Based from the following source:

"We lose officers about every 57 hours in this country," said Chuck Canterbury, president of the national Fraternal Order of Police.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29817606/?GT1=43001

Being that I do not live in CA it would be understandable that I said Oakland rather than Alameda County. Or should this simply mistake nullify what I said and the point being made?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

We'll find out more about this in the weeks ahead, but Charles, I seriously doubt he was able to hit 2 SWAT members with a shot to the head. Also, that assault rifle may have been modified to be fully automatic. I'll be interested to see how he obtained the weapon.

conversion kits for just about any semi auto rifle can be bought off the internet for around $40.

Your still misquoting BY, and misquoting without knowing what the statistic refers to. See my post above.

Hence the word 'example' you missed.

*shrugs* Your example wasn't very relevant to anything I posted here.

My example is to your responses in 9 out of 10 threads you post in. Which you have done so here. Where you insinuate something then turn around and deny it. Which of course goes hand in hand with your side-line, lack of stance on anything, approach on issues. Boy are you first to condemn others for having a stance of course.

Whatever you need to believe.

I'll help you out, in this COUNTRY - meaning IT IS A RARE EVENT IN OAKLAND AND THEY HAVE NEVER LOST MORE THAN ONE OFFICER AT ONE TIME BEFORE.

I imagine he got the gun illegally. I can only think that California has laws prohibiting people on parole from owning weapons. Difficult to enforce though when they are so widely available. Problem is, it was probably made legally to begin with. I have difficulty with the 'right to bear arms' arguments, because on the one hand I rather enjoy shooting. On the other hand, I do not mind having to wait for a permit, or have a mental health test, or be restricted to owning a gun that can only fire a very limited number of rounds (a shotgun for instance). But I know there are a lot of people out there who disagree with me.

I also think that the 'it's not the gun that did it, it's the user' argument is somewhat lacking. The gun, as Eddie Izzard (if in doubt quote an action transvestite!) would say, certainly 'helped' Mixon kill the officers.

Arguments aside, I hope we can agree that this is a tragedy, and more needs to be done to keep such weapons out of the hands of people like Mixon. I also think more needs to be done to provide even more high tech, lightweight armor for our police officers. Perhaps the time has come for them to carry some form of kevlar shield when doing traffic stops.

When they say lose an officer, they don't always mean being shot by black people either. They mean, an officer dying while engaged in his work.

Okay my bad. I misread the dam statement. One police officer dies every 57 hours in the country. Which is still a bloody disgrace.

How many police officers die in the UK every 57 hours or 500 hours?

How many police officers die in Australia every 57 hours or 3,000 hours?

How many police officers die in Canada every 57 hours or 3,000 hours?

[/indent] He uses AK-47s to hunt squirrels?!? We didn't realize there were squirrels in California that went around wearing body armor. And why is "Mike" so afraid he'll be robbed? The guy's got two AR-15s at home and two AK-47s on the way-- he shouldn't be afraid of anything!

Ballistics

Main article: 7.62x39mm

The standard AK-47:

7.62x39mm cartridge

Projectile weight: (120 gr).

muzzle velocity: 710 metres per second (2,300 ft/s).

Muzzle energy: 2,010 joules (1,480 ft·lbf).

The AK-47 and AKM, with the 7.62×39mm cartridge, have a maximum effective range of around 400 metres (1,300 ft).

ak-47

30-06:

Bullet weight/type: 150 gr (9.7 g) Nosler Ballistic Tip

Velocity: 2,900 ft/s (880 m/s)

Energy: 2,820 ft·lbf (3,820 J)

30-06

lots of hype about that ak-47 round, steven..........body armor on squirrels indeed.

I'll answer my own question: Approx I cop dead every 4,735 hours

Some 37 police officers have been murdered in the line of duty in the past two decades in England, Scotland and Wales. (combined)

What does the weapon have to do with this anyway?

Whether this guy had a gun or a baseball bat, he still would have killed them.

It is a bigger country. I guess a fairer statistic would be per man hour. Losing officers in the course of their duty is of course a problem, no matter what way you look at it. Without knowing where the main losses come though, one can only guess as to the best courses of action. I would imagine that all police forces make efforts to mitigate against a loss of their own and are constantly striving to do so.

keep in mind there is a difference between COUNTY and COUNTRY

lots of counties make up a state, lots of states make up a country.

How, exactly would he have achieved that with a baseball bat? Seriously dude, get a grip.

it's all about how some make the ak-47 seem like an end all demonic firearm when there's other calibers out there that put it to shame.
