Let's make it easy. It's Obama's fault. There, everyone happy? He was responsible for the Great Depression, WWII, and the fall of Rome. The expression is now, "Obama fiddled while Rome burned." And he ordered the gates opened to let in the Trojan horse. And there is even new evidence that he was responsible for the Black Plague.

No one said that, but the truth be know he is no agent of change. He's in the pocket of the Wall St firms as much as the next politician and his policies are just throwing gas on the fire.

I'm glad George was against Wall Street.

Well Bush is no longer the President and the new guy is heading off the cliff just as Bush, but he's driving faster.

He still has to start 2 wars before he can begin to catch up.

We were. I was just bringing up the point if Obama is heading off the cliff faster than Bush, he needs to start 2 wars to catch up. Then we can really do a head to head comparison. At this point in time, it really isn't fair because Obama doesn't really have any messes of his own. He is trying to reverse the ones handed to him. In due time, he may have some of his own doing, but right now, there really isn't anything to pin solely on him.

Well we just aren't going to agree, since I assume you voted for him and I didn't and I have no faith in what's he's doing and I assume you think he's doing things right.

I am an optimist, so therefore, I must see what Obama can do. Success always comes from failure.

Yeah, but the problem with this is there might not be any chance of a "do over."

And I think that if nothing was done, there may not be a chance of a do over either. We are in dire straits. If I am going to go down, I will go down swinging, not sitting by doing nothing . Sit still and what happens happens, or do something to stop the ship from sinking?

None of us know if he is doing things right. I will give him the chance instead of surrendering before the battle. As I said in another thread, somewhere down the line I may be ripping him apart too. But not until he has a chance to try. You may be right when all is said and done, but at the moment, it's only just begun. I choose to be positive, not blindly optimistic, but positive. Negativity never gets you anywhere. Focus on the solution.

During the 1920s, there were, on average, about 553,000 paid civilian employees of the federal government. By 1939 there were 953,891 paid civilian employees, and there were 1,042,420 in 1940.

I work for the federal government, so as Alfred E. Neuman say "What me worry." LOL

What's the correlation of the employment data have anything to do with what is happening right now?

The number of employee increase in government was because of wars, and overseer of massive construction projects such as the highway transportation system which requires offices to oversee them.

The security and exchange commission was created in 1934. They needed people.

Roosevelt 2nd New Deal needed people. The Works Progress Admin. was created. More people need work. Since the Great Depression happened no body could find work so he did what he had to do to make jobs.

And, to prevent another Depression from happening he created many new offices.

And, in 1940 there were still people who don't have jobs eventhough there was an inundated amount of civilian employees already in government. Also adding that the US needed to protect itself against a war that they participate in Dec. 1941.

The point of the increase was to get people working. Afterall, it was needed to protect the US from collapsing.

From several politicians resigning their positions, I doubt anyone would be safe.

Your job may be safe, but what about the millions that have already lost their jobs? Something has to be done to get them back to work. If it isn't, the rock will just keep rolling down the hill faster and faster. I doubt that we can wait 10 years to come out of this. There won't be much left. And WWII is what got us across the finish line to end the Great Depression.

One thing that has really changed is that we have more and more people trying to make money with money, very unproductive, and parasites for a nation that got this way by making something useful. But a very dangerous game when playing it with the super rich. Just a handful of them can get together and sell even a small percentage of stocks at a profit that causes the market to decline in value causing a major loss to many. They sell even further decreasing stock value, billionaires sit back and buy that stock at super low prices, let it grow and repeat that same cycle again.

This has been greatly augmented by the fact the supply and demand economics has also greatly increased over the years, just way too easy for a few to get super rich at the cost of everyone else.
