I believe in self influenced destiny. :) And I find no problem in having cake and eating it too. I don't believe in coincidence, and I know for sure my heart was hard as he!! when I met my husband. I don't believe it was his goofy jokes that softened it up for him either.

Reminds me of a song... God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you.

i believe in fate. who would have thought that two people who met on an airplane coming from and going to different places would end up getting married a year later? before this- i did not believe in fate or destiny. i still do not believe that everyone and everything is based on chance, but it can exist.

If you are suggesting that 'someone' or 'something' is putting together everyone's choices and somehow ensuring that from a good choice a positive outcome derives, as fate/destiny then no, I don't believe that. If you do make good choices, it's a pretty sensible conclusion to suppose that there will be a positive outcome, but sometimes from a good choice a negative outcome ensues.

We can weight outcomes positively by making sensible and good decisions but nothing can ensure that any outcome will be beneficial. Taking a simple example. Statistically we know that wearing a seat belt is a good idea. The majority of accidents that occur will be less traumatic if you are wearing one. However, every now and again a set of circumstances will transpire that mean that if an accident occurs, wearing a seat belt would actually cause more harm than good. Most people will wear a seat belt because they are weighting their chances in favour of the statistical probability that this is the sensible decision.

The same things can be true relating to relationships. If we grow and mature properly, by being given the benefit of sensible advice on how to be a loving, good and capable human being the chances are that we will recognize these qualities in another human being. We can further weight a positive outcome from a relationship by knowing what we want from a relationship before setting out on the process of finding someone to relate to. We can also further weight the chances of success by ensuring that we effectively communicate once we engage in a relationship etc, etc.

The reverse of course is true, we can hinder our chances of creating a positive relationship by making bad choices and decisions.

So, chance plays a part, but we can effect the outcome of chance by the way we make our decisions.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I agree with that idea.

I think we just use the term fate/destiny from the outcome of our decisions but basically we made the most part of making things to happen.

I believe there is a hand that guides us but that we have free will. I do not believe in coincidence.

My fiance disagrees. He believes that we have complete control over our life choices & decisions we make. The reason why we ended up meeting at the same place at the same time was the result of our decision/choice to be there at that time.

I'm a great believer in fate...if it's meant to be, then it's meant to be! I say the circumstances of how my fiance & I met was one in a million so it was just meant to be! Was it was fate...our destiny?!....

I'm sure the May-December couple you saw at the mall the other day wondering why he doesn't notice he's being take for a ride will be very happy to hear that...

I don't believe in fate or destiny. There is nothing to suggest that if I hadn't met my husband I wouldn't have been just as happy with someone else.

I kind of look at it in the same way as believing in a God....if it makes you feel good do it

I don't really believe in destiny or fate. I believe our life is what we choose it to be. Our actions and choices is what brings us to where we are at this point and forward. I don't think things are written, or that something was supposed to happen.

I mean, since I don't know how my life would be had I made different choices, I can't tell if it'd be better or not, so I can't even say that meeting my husband was destiny or fate and that we're meant for each other. I feel we are right now, but who knows in different circumstances, had we made different choices if we'd have found someone else whow as right for us?
