My fiance disagrees. He believes that we have complete control over our life choices & decisions we make. The reason why we ended up meeting at the same place at the same time was the result of our decision/choice to be there at that time.

I'm a great believer in fate...if it's meant to be, then it's meant to be! I say the circumstances of how my fiance & I met was one in a million so it was just meant to be! Was it was fate...our destiny?!....

I believe in both in a way. I think God puts people in certain places at certain times to help them find each other. I prayed for a very long time to meet someone like my husband. In my mind I had decided it never would happen. My husband's friend built his page on the website we met on and put down my state for my husband's state of residence (when he really was in Egypt). My husband was trying to figure out how to switch his location to Egypt when we met. Coincidence? Maybe. We both believe it was prayers answered.

I believe in necessary coincidence. Everything that happens before, brings us to where we are here and now. Pull at any thread, and the entire tapestry falls apart. The way that everything weaves together, it is hard not to believe in fate. As far as destiny, that depends how well we use our God given talents.

Of course, you could wander into quantum mechanics, where all possible realities that can exist, do exist. Where does fate and destiny lay in that universe?

P.S. Good topic!

Let's not... It's 10:15 on a Saturday.

I believe God must have wanted me to be with my husband because he pulled out a lot of stops to get us together.

Wife and I were talking about this yesterday while on a long drive, extremely difficult for a man to meet the right woman, and the same for a woman to meet the right man. And the odds of both of you looking but not knowing what you are looking for meeting, but you both knowing it is right are extremely remote. Either of you may think you found the right one, but that one may not be what the other person is looking for. And you really don't know what you are looking for, you know it's right when you do, both of you know it's right.

So we both revealed our stories as to how we met, we haven't had this discussion before, we just met and everything fell into place, we didn't question that. But was it purely by accident or was it a miracle? That we don't know, either satisfies the circumstance of our meeting. A series of events, but after over five years of marriage, with plenty of USCIS stress and other insurmountable problems we had to face and resolved, it all worked out for us. Some we had control over, others was in the hand of fate, a coincidence, an accident, or a miracle. Take your choice.

Wife and I were having a go around about what to do with our living room picture window, she had a meeting to attend to yesterday in a different town. We debated whether I should drive her or just stay home. She wanted me to drive her, but what will I do while waiting. Said, must be a bar or something open, was just kidding. But found a store that had exactly what we were both looking for, on sale, and I brought her there to see it, she said, that is exactly what I am looking for and I agreed. So was that an accident? We didn't go there to look for window treatments, we went there for her meeting, and the reason why I wanted to drive her, we had fresh snow on the ground.

In like manner, our meeting was not looking for each other, we just happen to meet, in our first phone call, lasted over 45 minutes, she couldn't understand a word I was saying nor could I understand her, but we knew we wanted to be together, that is weird. We never had doubts, never were jealous, never had an argument, both met other so-called eligible mates, but were never interested. Would have to say, our meeting was a miracle. We still have some miscommunication, but laugh about that.

Every decision I have ever made was out of free will, however without each and every one of those I would not be where I am today. So many things could have happened where I would not have met my wife. Its not just my decisions but hers and all of those around us that shape and influence the way we think and act and the subsequent decisions that we make. I just think I was lucky that the previous 26 years went the way they did (although if you follow my logic then I was lucky the previous billion years went the way they did)

On the side not of alternate realities, I used to love a show called Sliders (well the first 2 seasons anyway). It showed how different things would be if one thing was different. It was little silly and farfetched but interesting to think about none the less.

I was watching the film "Sliding Doors" the other night & I was thinking about destiny.

2 different accounts of Helen's (Gwyneth Paltrow) life running parallel to one another. What happens if she gets on the train & what happens if she doesn't.

The outcome was still the same. She still ended up being with James (the lovely Scottish guy)

I know...it's only a movie! lol

So I was thinking..If I didn't happen to meet my fiance when we did and if destiny is involved, we would've met again another day. Who knows?

i believe in fate/destiny..........every day people are put in our path for one reason or another, maybe is to help them, maybe is to learn from them but one way or another we were destine to meet them......it is our free will that allows us to make the choice of following that destiny anyways thats what i believe..........
