There may be affiliation in membership and even those people who helped create it, but that site was launched as a completely separate endeavor. It is not supposed to be the right or left wing of VJ. I will tell you for a fact that the administration between the two sites is separate and then moderation as well. Like any website, each has their own TOS and that site specifically allows most adult language and discussion to occur that would never be acceptable on a family site like this. There are many people who are expatriates that want to discuss topics and not feel they have to walk on eggs because of the family nature of VJ. That is more of Expats domain. That said, I am not sure people "speaking freely about things" means that they would bring it here either. Someone here may simply not say things because it is against the TOS but may say it there. That does not mean that they would not "think it" in either spot.

The problem is that those who do not post on "expats" can easily find themselves targeted for something they say on VJ that is not to the liking of "expats" members, which are entirely made up of VJ members. In fact the creation of that very forum was formed and linked by yourself in this very section "Site Related Discussion." (I'm too lazy to find the link, but it exists).

Now, some months ago I make a defensive remark to someone who was making false statement in the UK section of VJ. The next morning I discover that there is an entire thread with my first and last name (which I made the mistake of using freely on this forum) and the statement "robin l^%& is a c u n t"

So now, thanks to VJ anyone who googles me for professional reasons or whatever can find that little gem, all because of my participation in this forum. I pmed you (Ewok) at the time about my concerns as a result of that incident but got ZERO response. The time I spend on this site has been about less than 10% of what it once was as a result.

The fact remains that it has a toxic effect on the atmosphere and membership here, whether you like it or not.

Yes when the site was made it was done to focus on Expats. There was a link made only to tell people that if they wanted to talk about non VJ related items regarding expatriates that they could go there. That site was not made to allow people to "skirt" VJ by any means. It is open to the web and geared towards expatriate discussion in general. The topics there are certainly different from here and like any site they may have bad apples or posts. Their TOS is certainly less strict than here (as this is a family site we do not allow things to get too bad verbally on the forums).

In general, people will post things all over the web: blogs, forums, etc.. Controlling information on the web can be, well impossible. If they don't do it one place you can be sure they will do it another. My general suggestion to people is to limit what they discuss about their personal life and especially do not name drop unless you want it indexed by search engines.

If I missed your PM I do apologize (see previous post in this thread where I am going to create a trouble ticket system to prevent this from happening in the future). Also if your real name was used here on VJ I would be more than happy to remove it. I do however need a link to specific posts so I can find it. I am sure the same will go for the other site.

I think I found the thread on the other site you are referring to. It looks like you and the poster had some history I guess. I also noticed the person you said it replied later,

For what it's worth, Robin, I apologize for calling you a #$@#.

That was really rather rude of me.

So it does appear that they made an apology to you. I requested to the admin there on your behalf to have them remove your name regardless. I will search this site for your name (you said you posted it here at some point) and if I can find it I will remove it.
