Hello mga Kapatid :)

I just want to share my experienced about my application to amend my Machine Readable Passport. For you to save some $$$ sending the application and report of marriage via express mail/priority mail with return envelope, and for you to save time preparing all the documents needed.

tips:

1. f u r holding green passport (old one) they will amend ur passport without personal appearance. U can send it via USPS express mail or Fed-ex and UPS.

2. f u r holding MRP (d new one) we need to go in the PI embassy, where ur state belong. instead of amendment of passport they will renew our MRP to our married name (6 weeks waiting period). I was really disappointed when i received my return envelope this morning. They just process the report of marriage but they didn't process my application for amendment of passport. so, i callled them and ask WHY? they told me that they will only amend the old passport but the MRP we need to re apply again, and bring the report of marriage.

Thanks for the info Fatima, and congrats sa coming baby.

We are under Washington D.C., been trying to call but I always end up getting connected to their answering machine. I tried different numbers and tried different time of the day but all to no avail. Do you have the same consular office? Can you advice me what number to dial and the best time to call?

Thanks.

You missed Hawaii!

One "bad" thing coming out of having to appear in person is some filipinos are just going for US citizenship and not renewing their Philippines PP because it's to much trouble to get to their consulates to renew their passports in person.

I guess the Philippine government doesn't care if their countrymen "bail out" and get dual citizenship.

They just process the report of marriage but they didn't process my application for amendment of passport. so, i callled them and ask WHY? they told me that they will only amend the old passport but the MRP we need to re apply again, and bring the report of marriage.

>>> hope it helps.... God Bless! pls. share ur experiences too.

Thanks for the info. I still have the old passport (green one). This info saves me in going to LA for my renewal.

Hi Rheanick,

You might want to read the information on this link first before you mail your green passport.

It feels like the philippines government is hitting me in the head with this regulation. :bonk:

I guess i will take my friend's offer to move forward with my naturalization immediately. Main reason, just to avoid renewing my philippines passport.

Thanks.

Hi dbears! I called the PI Embassy in D.C. like 3 times last week and talked to people there without any trouble. That was around 2pm and 4pm! I just dialled the number (202) 467-9300.

On my first call, the machine got me,and i just followed the instructions and was connected to a human being. Then on my next call i was a bit surprised coz it was a human being who answered my call. If u listen to the machine, you will hear that an extension number is being asked. (9325) is the extension number for passport thing!

Hope this will help. Goodluck to your next attempt of calling them.
