Just back from my medical today, and the receptionist was really nice.

Oh no - you got the pox clinic next door !

Oh dear all that money for nothing...

But they said they were expecting me!

that must have been the same evil woman who continuously told me I couldn't schedule an appointment with them unless I had my interview date with the Embassy set and to hand last year. although calling back about 20 mins later I got a nicer more friendly lady to arrange an appointment, luckily I managed to avoid evil woman at my medical although the blonde doctor I saw wasn't much nicer on the day, especially when she couldn't work out her math on what year I had surgery on my feet

Lucky thing I didn't speak to the misery lady or I would have wanted to throttle her, after all the arg we went through finding a black hole in the embassy office (had to send numerous packet 3's to them and get Paul's congresswoman involved to find out if they had received them), and tell her that the congresswoman had helped us get an interview at the Embassy just over a week after my medical. although I did see her pulling roll eyes faces when I came to pay for my medical and explained that my interview was the Friday after, I head her comment as I walked out something along the lines of Pfft.. it probably wouldn't be there on time because of the medical. all I can guess is she didn't have anything to do with transferring my medical report from there to the embassy :P

Stinky evil witch needs counseling in public relations me thinks!

  • 2 weeks later...

I had no idea about the legend of the boetch before my medical. I thought everyone was talking about a receptionist from the interview dates.

But yeah.. I was asked to go to the waiting room, and then she came out (at least I assume it was her because she was the one who was consistently abrupt when I came in); she called my name and I looked over and said "yes" (thinking it might be time to come through)... she replied "you're going to need to stand up" with the crappiest look on her face.

I don't remember much else other than her acting annoyed whenever she spoke to me.

I later accidentally walked into her office when she was going through paperwork with another patient. I apologised, gotten the wrong room and all that, but face was like thunder. The X-ray man laughed at me..

We just had our medicals today too....we arrived at 11.30 for our 12.50pm appointment hoping to be seen early or just to wait (it has been the wettest day of the year and we were soaked) only to be told to come back at 12.50 as it was their lunch break  How nice it must be to get that long for lunch. When we were eventually allowed in, she was as abrupt and ill mannered as others have said before me. She also needs a lesson in the Data Protection Act as she demanded every applicant in the room leave their passports, medical questionnaires and vaccination history on the counter in full view of everybody. This would have you in alot of trouble, if not fired in the NHS. Who the hell wants their most personal details on view to the whole room? Where I work, you can't even leave a personal file face up at your desk, it has to be turned over in case someone not dealing with that patient sees something! I was appalled, especially as I asked to keep my records with me until I was in the room with the nurse, mainly because there were so many bits of paper and a tiny vaccination card of mine from birth that could so easily have been lost, but she insisted, in that 'if you don't like it you can @*$! off' kind of way. Cow, I thought at the time that she must indeed be the infamous receptionist from hell!

Wow she sounds like a complete cow! She must've had a day off when I was there on 30th March...thank God! :star:

I wonder if anyone has dared to stand up to her & point out that they don't appreciate paying 180+ quid for the privelege of being spoken to like an inferior human being? She might spontaneously combust!

Well, my fiance did not even have his medical yet...just called the receptionist for his appointment a few days ago, and she was downright UGLY with him, he was so upset. Then I gave him the link to this thread...and he saw that she is that way with most people. First she refused to believe that his passport is not with him. She even said I can't get you an appointment, but then my fiance insisted that it is clearly listed in their informational pdf available on the embassy's website that "passport OR another form of ID" is ok. She continued to argue and then she told him "first look at map B and then call be back if you want an appointment" My fiance thought WTH? What does looking at Map B have anything to do with getting a freakin' medical appointment??? Anyway, she had abruptly hung up the phone so my fiance called back and asked for an appointment again...and then she finally said ok, what day? And he said ASAP, she said she didn't have anything open before the 24, so he got the earliest on the 24 and he thought that was it...phew....BUT

Today he got a phone call from the same evil receptionist saying to him "you had your medical appointment today, why did not you show up?" And my fiance told her, no, you said the earliest was Friday April 24 so I booked on Friday April 24 @ 9:30 AM. And she kept insisting that his appointment was today, and then she told him she was going to double check and cal him back...

Then she called back and told him we are having technical issues with our electronic booking system...yes you have an appointment for Friday April 24. What time? And again, my fiance said I told you I already booked at 9:30, she said we have an earlier one at 8:55 AM, do you want that one? My fiance decided to change to the 8:55 AM one then...and of course she did not apologize for the mix-up or her yelling...just hung up. :crying: We already are fed up her and my fiance has not even gone to the medical yet!

Hope his medical goes much better than the phone calling for the appointment!!!

This is just petty but while i'm in the mood to vent, but she did not even give me a receipt for my £270 cash when I asked her, she said the vaccination record was enough

Wow. That's just completely unacceptable. I think you should all file a complaint to her employer.

I agree but British people do not complain in general :). They'll be unhappy with the service provided but very few will file an official complaint. It must be something in British nature that they don't want to stir up the trouble :).

Well, she better be nice to me or else...

I wonder how long would she have her job if everybody who got mistreated by her file an official complaint?! Hmmm... They are after all a private practice....

You're both right. So I'm going to see if I can file an email address for the practice, and send them the link to this thread. Right now  .

They will probably send her for some extra "training" ....but yes, I have only just caught up with this thread and my first thought was that someone should complain, but really we are all just glad to get another step over with, and that bad treatment soon gets pushed aside as we move forward to the next step.

Although I will add, she was very nice to me and actually called out of the window as me and my son sat in the rain as we arrived early and told me to come on up.... maybe she got laid the night before, who knows??

Blonde Reception Biotch and Miserable Blonde Doctor could be related, for their facial expressions are identical.

Yep, yep .. I know exactly which two people are meant by various posters. My medical was all the way back in August 08, and I remember them well. That's how badly scarred I am from that event. :)
