Do you get happier the older you get?

I had a conversation recently with a group of girl friends (all aged around 40) and most of us felt that we were happier now than we'd ever been (I came top of course as I'm a crazy in love newlywed). There was one 42 year old who feels that she's an old lady and that her life is over, but thankfully she was the exception! The rest of us all agreed that it had taken us until our late thirties to feel comfortable with ourselves and that our self-esteem was at a high point.

Of course the question is whether it's now downhill all the way or if things will continue to get better. Of course I'm not talking about life's problems and tragedies which can and do hit us at any age, but maybe it's about getting better equipped to cope with them.

What do you think?

Don't you believe for one minute that it is down hill from here on in. I can vouch for that

Yes you will find things change and change again, you definitley feel more comfortable with who you are and the confidence is just great as long as you do not let yourself go.

You will eventually find that there are little aches and pains that were not there before  but so what, keep active, enjoy life, live well and be happy, I am 60 and still loving every minute of my life, so much so that I think if someone tries to take me away, they will have a fight on their hands :lol:

ps: check out my pic if you want, I don't think I look 60 and neither do all my friends and if that is being over confident, so what !!!

My mom recently was talking about this kind of stuff...she is 48 and feels the happiest in life than ever also. So she would agree that she is happier as she gets older for many reasons. (she grew up with a very bad childhood so compared to that also, her life became more wonderful as she got older :luv: ) She says she's looking forward to turning 50, which not many women would say!

Definately not going to be down hill. At 46 Im still climbing. I am going to be looked on as an eccentric wench as the years add up. I have been told I am very much like a great aunt that we lost about 10 years ago now. She was an incredible lady, very much the individual despite some weird looks from some lol she was full of life and passion right into her 90's and I am honored to be following in her footsteps.

Oh, yes, I have to agree as well. Life does get better and better as you get older. I just turned 51 - I still feel young, alive and vibrant - but there is a much deeper core of acceptance and understanding of who I am than I had when I was younger. I love being me and I have no desire to hirde from any of my birthdays. Yes, there are a few of those little aches and pains starting but that is all a part of life. I look back at my younger years and wish I had then the confidence and experience I have now - I missed so many opportunities because I was uncertain or unsure. I 'sweated the small stuff' as they saying goes - and as I have gotten older, I see so much of it is 'small stuff'. As another saying goes, you just get older, not old.

I have to agree, I am getting much happier as I get older, I am only 33, but I am much happier now than I was when I was in my twenties. I am an independent woman who knows herself, and knows what she wants out of life now. I finally have the man of my dreams and I know life is even going to get better and better as we age together!!!!

Alison,

I think that you and most of your friends have the right idea.
