Birth Certificate Is Not Clear

My original Birth Cert is not clear, like every letter is broken because it was just filled up using a type-timer (old times), but that's what I had all the time, for the K1 petition and visa application and didn't have any problem about it. Should I worry about for AOS?

Thanks for any answer.

Very common for NSO BCs to be unclear in the Philippines. COs at USEM are used to such. Hopefully your IO at the AOS interview [if you have one]. will accept it. My wifes was so bad you could'nt even read it. I ordered a couple for her online that were clear.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

My birth cert is like that too..its like there's not even a type writer that time, and heck, it was 1978 where i know type writer is already invented, u know! I dunno, it was crookedly hand-written and faded.

I did my k3 almost 3 yrs now so i cant really remember if they accept it at first but something in my mind tells me they asked for a certification from my local register to back up my birth cert being that its not very clear.

Im so glad im able to find ur post coz now i would just get another cert ( let my mom get it for me back home) just in case i would get an RFE in the future. I guess i still have time. AOS package dont go until after end of the month, anyway.

Hi,

If you want, you may get a form that is a transcription of your Birth Certificate from the Local Civil Registrar (place where you were born) and have this form authenticated by NSO. This is called the FORM 1A.

You said your birth certificate issued by NSO is not clear, it is because NSO issue birth certificates in Security Paper, that is an image of your original birth certificate.

I believe, USCIS is not concerned with the kind of paper the birth cerficate is written, as long as it is in English. The Form 1A is very clear because as it is a transcription only of your birth certificate.

Just to share with you because I have worked with NSO before.

Have a good day. God bless everyone.

I tried that before when I was still in the Philippines but the NSO people said that things had changed and they can't issue an authenticated 1A anymore if they can issue an authenticated BC. They said it works before but rules has changed.

The Local Civil Registrar issue FORM 1A and not NSO. NSO just authenticate the FORM 1A issued by the LCR. As long as the all the data and information that is in the FORM 1A is the same with the NSO issued BIRTH CERTIFICATE.

I am sorry to hear that they have changed the system. Then I guess you have to request for a clearer copy of your BC online.

I think they were about $20 each. Took about a month.

Ooops! Sorry, I misunderstood that. I know I need to get the Form 1A from Civil Registrar and have it authenticated by NSO. Now, I understand. Thanks for the link, anyway.

Hi,

Do you have a copy of the FORM 1A (transcription of Birth Certificate) issued by the Local Civil Registrar? If you have it, you may present it too. I believe the USCIS will accept that copy even if this has not been authenticated by NSO. Again if the data and information that you have in the FORM 1A is the same with whatever you provided the USCIS, then I believe you will be fine.

I am just sharing my opinion.

God bless.

Yes, I have the Form 1A and that one is very old too (paper is already brown  ) but the prints are way much clearer than my birth certificate.

I guess I'll just send my Birth Cert. together with my application and if they'll have a problem about it not being clear, I'll present my Form 1A. Like I said, I used the same unclear BC for my visa application and I didn't have any problems with that.

Thanks for all your advise and suggestions.
