Have we all said something similar in the past? Probably. Was it necessarily right? Probably not. The main difference between one of us with family and friends is that the President of the United States made this comment on national TV that's broadcast live.

Whether or not he meant it in a negative way or "spoke before he thought" is irrelevant. Given his position, he will be held to a higher standard than the average person.

Although I feel that if Bush had said it, the people saying "no big deal", because they like Obama, would have been the ones making the big deal. This always happens, when one party is in power the other will give them a hard time at any chance they can and vice versa. Why do people act like that's something new?

I don't think so - to me its all rather silly personally. Obama's comment was a clanger - and will doubtless be perceived as insensitive and howls of outrage are likely forthcoming from the demogogues. If the media does its job of cultivating outrage (as it often does about things like this) we'll likely see him (or someone in the WH) issuing some sort of retraction or clarification in a few days.

Too much time is wasted on frivolous garbage IMO - I'd like to think that there are substantial criticisms against Obama (as there were against Bush). The reality though is that many people like to get fixated on trivial stuff like this.

With all that is going on what the heck is he doing making an appearance on Jay Leno? That time could have been used to try to solve the mess we're in.

For me - it just never got any better when Tony Blair appeared on Richard and Judy years ago (in the middle of a big policy scandal) and they had phone in callers to ask him questions. The best anyone could manage was "what football team do you support?".

The Govt grew bigger under bush than any other President, so of course we can include Bush.
