I was in Turkey for abt. a half year. I had opportunity to explore parts of central and western Turkey. I enjoyed visiting small villages (non-touristic). The locals are friendly and accommodating. I love the architecture of the old Ottoman houses and original Turkish mosques. One doesn't see much of them in Ankara or Istanbul any more. These wonderful pieces of history and Turkish identity are being raized for modern high rise condos, hotels, strip malls, etc.

I love Bodrum, too. I wish I was there right now.

What is your favorite place in Turkey?

I Loved Istanbul and cant wait to go back....we went to so many towns also non-touristic, too many to even try to list or spell... Took a bus from Istanbul down to Antakya....so drove thru a good chunk of Turkey (L) I have a deep passion for art, architecture, music...I can go on and on but I must say Turkey is a must to visit. {live} :D also the food is Great!!! and the culture is very deep and meaningful...like my husband

Sorry to hear about your AOS problems Betty...We too are "Stuck" in Name check/FBI check....No word yet .... getting worried a little. Candemir is also missing family.... adjusting is still hard but getting better each and every day......Cultural shock I think.

I love Istanbul, have been there twice. I also stayed for a week in Ayvalik, which is a really small town but it's so safe and peaceful. We went fishing, saw some of the Greek Islands just from standing on the beach, crazy! I love the culture and the food as well.

We might be going to Bodrum at the end of May. I have to check it out before I agree to move there. We will most likely move to Turkey in either 5 years or when we retire. We are both in fields that allows us to retire whenever we want, so who knows when that will be. Hopefully, sooner than later.

Hi awaterlily

I also loved Istanbul, but curious about Bodrum since that is all my husband speak of.....Bodrum, Bodrum, Bodrum :secret: geez! Of course that is his opinion, but I much rather hear about it from another American as to what is so great about Bodrum? We are planning to go there once we get to Turkey and can't wait to see what makes this place more special then all the others.

Ohh well

Hi SOlcayto

Like you we are also thinking to move to Turkey in a few years, that is if my husband doesn't find his career here and things don't work out well for him otherwise we will be there much much sooner, possibly this year! :o

Hi Debra and Betty

Sorry to hear the delays in your husband's AOS approval, hope that you will hear from them soon. :clock:

I do miss talking to you guys and will try to be here more when I get the time, if not then I will email you.

P.S. I know that you both said that your husbands are missing home very much and I'am sure like Coskun is too, but how are your guys coping with living in the USA? Maybe we should start a new forum for helping Turkish husbands cope with homesickness , what do you think?

Take care everybody

FYI - Bodrum:

http://www.bodrumlife.com

There's an "Extras" category on the left side of the main page, click on "photos" and "panoramic photos" to see some highlights of Bodrum.

The highlight of my stay in Bodrum was yachting around the islands for an entire day. We lounged on deck in the warm sun. A chef prepared a full course meal for lunch. The boat dropped anchor at various spots through out the excursion and passengers could dive off board and swim. The water was warm and incredibly clear. I had the worst sun burn by the end of the day.

We met some nice folks on board from England, Germany and Poland.

I recommend visiting the Bodrum Castle, too. The view from the top is breath taking.

It has a great castle for one. The restaurants are nice too, many being by the water etc......with nice scenery.

Personally, I preferred Fethiye'..........but Bodrum was a nice place to visit as well. (maybe a bit too "touristy" though, in my opinion.) Still, was quite a difference from and a break from the traffic and hustle/bustle of Istanbul.

I passed though each of those places, as well as a some time in Kas...and Antalya, last summer. I had never been to Turkey before (much less out of North America), so my wife took me on the "grand tour" of the southern part of Turkey, and the Mediterranean region.

I enjoyed it very much, and have many fond memories of it and Turkey.

I also wanted to mention that I was in Istanbul in December/January as well. I only stayed a few weeks, and only in Istanbul this time.

However, the one thing that I do remember, since it was the first time I spent a winter there, is that.........

It was FREAKING cold!!! :o

I have no idea how my wife handles it there. I'm from Florida.....and I felt like my wife was part eskimo......being able to handle cold like that.

But, that being said, I will say that we went down to an area restaurant one evening, that was just across the Bosphorus with a terrific view of downtown Istanbul and their lights. I forget the name of the area, but it was parallel to Hagia Sophia and Dolmabahce Palace, etc..., with a walkway along the waterway.

My greatest recollection was that I can not imagine a more picturesque view.......it was almost like being in a fairy tale akin to "Aladdin's Lamp" or something.

I has to be one of the most breathtaking views anywhere in the world.

(still freaking cold though!) :P
