I need to get the whole thing (TB, Blood Works, Immunization Shots etc) done for I-693. The CS' are charging an arm and leg for the whole nine yards.

Civil Surgeons are not accepting insurance and my insurance company says they won't even let me file for these expense unless the CS is "in-network".

So, I am wondering:

(1) If it is possible to get all the different components of I-693 from a regular physician?

(2) Would insurance cover it if I am getting these tests done for seemingly no good medical reasons?

(3) If yes, would a CS be able to just transcribe results from regular physicians?

Any other suggestions on saving money in NJ? Already searched the forum but even the doctors recommended in other posts are charging a lot if you get all the tests and immunization done.

Any help is highly appreciated!!

No you cannot have your medical done at a regular doctor it has to be a civil servant. They do not accept insurance so you will have to pay cash up front. You are saying that the tests are done for seemingly no good reason but there's a good reason for them wanting it to be done. They want to make sure that the person they are saying yes to regarding residency us free from diseases. You might say that there are many here with the disease already but all applicants for residency needs proof that they are not carrying anything that will affect others into the country and this is a way for them to know who has what and have it looked into.

Again you MUST have a current medical done and the CS cannot just take the word of another doctor. Go online and find CS's in your neighborhood and you might find one that charges less than others. You wouldn't want to have a roommate with TB coughing all over the place and not telling you that they have it now would you? Nor would you want your spouse to have a past of STD infection that is untreated and didn't mention it right? It's the same with USCIS they want to know the medical condition of everyone who they are giving their approval to live in their country.

Calm down.

I meant "..seemingly no good medical reasons?" for the insurance company since these tests are not part of a regular physical examination. I do understand why the tests are needed.

"You might say that there are many here with the disease.." I did not say that so you should stop putting words in other people's mouth. If you want to make your point then make it without attacking.

Thanks Haole

I'm pretty sure you have to have your blood work done from a Civil Surgeon, but I had my immunizations done before I had my medical exam, and just brought proof of them with me. The CS I saw in Vancouver just transcribed them for me. This was for my K-1.

For my AOS, which I sent recently, I brought my immunization records with me again to the CS I saw here in Florida (I needed another exam because it had been over a year), and she once again just transcribed them for me. I got my TB from her at the same time, so I can't say for sure whether or not getting it done by anyone else was an option. She did not charge me extra for transcribing. The whole thing cost less than a hundred dollars.

I would call the CS you're going to see and ask just to be sure if they will transcribe your immunization records for you, and if they will charge you extra for it. Just so you don't get any nasty surprises.

Best of luck!

Thanks LDora.

The cheapest CS I found who would do the full medical (shots, test, paperwork) is charging $260. I think I will go for it since it seems a pretty decent deal. Other places are charging upward of $400 for everything.

I have friends who got their TB test and immunizations done through their primary care physican...the nurse then wrote the information on the immunization card and they took it to a Civil Surgeon to have in transcribed onto the I-693.

U got me wrong my dear. I wasn't suggesting that we are filling up the place with disease. I am just stating that they need to do these tests as a safeguard and it is the same reason that animals are tested before they travel.

The other day my husband had a chest pain and a lot of persons were coming into the ER for the same reason. They asked us if we had traveled out of the country in the last two weeks because there might be airborne diseases that he could have picked up innocently - we had not traveled. When I asked the questions that I did, it wasn't meant to be personal, I was just making a statement and asking you if your spouse had a past of STD then you would want to know the same way you would like to know that someone isn't coughing all over you with TB as you sit on the train. I just think that they are trying to get a handle on diseases etc and to make sure that we are protected because sometimes we dont know that we have an ailment and we just dont get up and say lets do this test. It sucks that we have to fork out money when we have insurances and I understand the logic of that but I guess they do the tests on things that are not routine and the CS's decided that they do not want to wait a month for insurance to pay for it. Sorry if I offended you...handshake?
