Have a US Greencard and want to travel to S. Korea soon but the GC is expired. In the process of getting the conditions removed (filed 3 months ago) and have the 1 year extension letter in hand. Went for passport today (Korean consulate). They were not confident about re-entry to the US- getting in would not be a problem- just coming back. The passport would be blank (10 year one) and the GC expired. Is it just possible to show them the extension letter? Only going for 2-3 weeks.

THANK YOU!

YES WHAT? It would be OK and have no problems with re-entry as long as the GC was accompanied with the extention letter?

Your passport, expired GC and extension letter will gain you re-entry to the US. (That's one reason for the letter.)

Read the extension letter. It specifically states on it that it extends your green card status for one year and is good for both work and travel purposes. You use the letter together with the expired green card. You should have no problems re-entering the US as it is their document and they are very familiar with it.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Also I would recommend to carry I-797C notice of action : receipt notice for I-90 (Green Card renewal form).
