Apparently, if you take a look at these links, the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan has just opened it's consulate there for non-immigrant visas. Has anyone heard word about this or how it would affect Afghan-U.S.C. filers?

Thanks guys!

hey!

first off, congrats on your approval! sorry for being so late :P lol

yes! i heard this also. i checked on their website and i emailed the US embassy in kabul asking if they issue out immigrant visas also. however, they said they only issue out non-immigrant visas as of recently. i think if our husbands applied for a non-immigrant visa, they would probably be denied because they are going through the immigrant visa process.

also, they have to prove that they will be returning back to afghanistan and are not planning on staying longer than their intended visit. so, no help for us ):

btw, did your husband obtain a birth certificate? nvc wanted my husband's original national ID, which is impossible, so he had to get a sworn affidavit from the authorities.

i hope all is going well for ya!

take care!

haha, no problem :) thanks! Well, in my case, it's my fiance, not my husband ;) soooo... haha, I might be a little better off seeing that K-1 Visas are Non-Immigrant. But as of right now, the NVC website only has Afghan K-1 Visas going through Islamabad, which totally sucks.. it's like the front lines there right now.....

I will write them and see what they say to K-1's :) I'm glad you got a response, I didn't really expect them to get back to people so quickly!

As far as birth certificate (and now that I know this works, because our petition got approved, I can tell you with confidence), we used his national ID and he scanned it and sent that to me, and THEN he sent an original copy of the English TRANSLATION of that (which turned into a 1-page document that looks like a birth certificate: name, date of birth, father's name, where born, etc.) with the stamp on it.. maybe the same thing you said he got from the authorities. And then for the interview and for the AOS when he gets here, he'll have to have an original translated stamped copy for both of those :) SOOOO much trouble :) I'm glad we didn't get RFE :D

Where are you in the process? I don't know how CR's work :)

Oh, and I did a sample timeline based on the VisaJourney K-1 Guides, and my fiance should be here by the first week of July if they only give him 1 month of AP... :) so.. basically, we're both floating on air at this point :D

well, i tried using the national ID for NVC, and they rejected it because it was the copy. so my husband went out and got a letter from the authorities that serves as a birth certificate. but it's gonna take a while to get here because he's in the northern region [no postal service!] that's what sucks :( so that's the only thing that's holding my case at NVC, otherwise it would have been completed by now! let's just hope he gets an interview soon! :)

Oh, where in the north is he from?? Yes, I hope everything goes smoothly and quickly for you also... even with the 6 day minimum mailing time for Kabul (me to him, or him to me), I still get cranky :) I can't stand to think that it's a mailing delay that would make a difference in the processing time...

Yea, we actually just got our letter from NVC in the mail with our case number and telling us it was definitely Islamabad where the petition would be mailed too and the interview and everything, but I emailed the embassy there and the embassy in kabul to find out how it works, because on the Islamabad Embassy webpage for non-immigrant visa's it says for Afghans applying for non-immigrant visas that they can do it in Kabul.. hmm.. :) why's everything always so COMplicated!! :D

We're staying excited though, so I can't complain... this is the fun part, waiting for the interview... some sarcasm there :) Well, lemme know how it's going for you, if you get any updates! And let me know if me or my fiance can help out with mail at all.. I know it's a pain in the butt over there..

Ok, so if anybody reads this, this is the response I got from the Kabul U.S. Embassy on the subject of filing K-1 Visas (non-immigrant) at the Kabul Embassy instead of the Islamabad U.S. Embassy:

The US Embassy in Kabul is not able to process immigrant visa

applications at this time. Your interview will be held in Islamabad and

they will contact you with the date. The website is:

http://islamabad.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html.

Sincerely,

US Consul Kabul

**Note: It's kind of still retarded though, because K1 is a non-immigrant visa.... sooo.. haha.. Oh well, what can you do? Can't fight the system, so just hopin' for a quick turn around with NVC and the Islamabad Embassy!

Good Luck everybody that's waiting!!!
