Ok guys,....just an update.

Back in late November, early December last year, I applied for a credit card with USAA. I had no history of credit in the US, and my husbands is not the best, so I was surprised when they offered me a $500 credit limit, with no security. All I had said when applying, was I was new to the country, had had Good Credit at home, and was simply trying to establish my credit here.

Well, low and behold,...I was just online a few minutes ago checking the banking, and stuff,...and nearly fell off my chair. My credit limit has been increased to $1400.

All I can say is WOW.....

IM on my way,......

I will be in the same situation as you (plus my OH isn't a fan of credit, too easy to get in problems, which is fair comment) - tho I'm takin my visa card with me when I move (they said they have no issue with me moving as long as they know where I am and I pay the bills, lol) but I really want a US card!

I worked for 16 years in the Finance and Home Loan industry, I know how to control credit, and maintain it. Just because I have it DOES NOT mean , I am going to spend it. I still retain my credit card at home too. My hubbys poor credit has a LOT to do with his ex wife. So, maybe by doing this, I can establish something, which works towards us eventually getting a home loan.

I agree, with your hubby Jaylen, you can get into problems easily. But, I have learnt over many years how to take control, and not let it take control of me,....LOL. And Yeah Gwen, it does make life, a hell of a lot easier,...

lmfao..u lot are too much...pmsl...I don't think I have ever seen anyone so enthusiastic about credit..But way to go...poor credit is not so good..I for one know. I still have doctor bills on my credit report that weren't even from me but from my ex husband...but because we were married and we were on the same insurance plan...it goes on both credit reports...you can't believe the problems it has caused me. Even to get utility bills in my name is a nightmare!!!

Be a real American and max out your card. ;)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

you also need to be leary of having TOO much credit as well. you can be denied loans if you have too much available credit!! just because you don't use it, doesn't mean it's not available to you ... catch my drift!?!

have you extended the very same advice to your wife!?!?

Nice one Jodee, if you know how to control it - good for you

I never knew until I was speaking to a mortgage guy over there that you can use your electricity, mobile bills just about anything that you pay monthly to start a "trade line" which will help towards the credit score

wise advice for those starting to build a credit rating. as i don't need any loans - just the house is all i'm paying for - and the max limit on the card is about 1/4 of my earnings a year, things should be well.

Many dealerships won't let you put an entire car on your credit card. Some actually have a limit of 5K on credit and they want cash or certified check for the rest.
