Still have yet to get an answer anywhere I look. Has anyone gone through this with younger children? My wife is going to get Police Check Done this week and I've asked her to ask the officers to see if it is necessary. I would like to know from members here also can I call NVC (Without my case being there) and ask?

Do I need to get police checks for my 3 kids?

Their ages are 10, 8, and 3

I work with Scouts and have to have police checks regularly for that. We have to have a national record search. We can't get one done for our leaders who are under 18. We've tried and the police won't run the check, so Scouts Canada relaxed the police check rule for leaders who are under 18, so long as they get a police check done within two months of their 18th birthday.

I'm not sure it's POSSIBLE to get a police check for kids that old.

March 13, 2009--Visa application handed to the post office.

March 16, 2009--Visa application received by Vermont Service Centre at 11:01 am. Let's hope that he actually put in everything he thought he did and they don't send it back to us!!

March 23, 2009--Got the whole package back. The cheque was apparently filled out incorrectly, thanks to the fact that his moronic flatmates helped him and instructed him wrong for the first cheque he ever filled out.

March 30, 2009--NOA1

August 12, 2009--Touched

September 1, 2009, received Package 1 from Montreal--but where is our NOA2???

You don't need a check for those kids.

Police can't release records for people under the aged 12 to 18 due to the young offenders act.

I actually had to take my son in for a police check, everyone 16 and up must get a police check done, so your kids don't need to have it done.

Ahh yay.

I always thought it was 18. Thanks a bunch.

Hey with the young offenders act and everything, what happens if a child does have a record? They do end up releasing that information??

I didn't get one for my son and he was 8 when he came.

Hmm - perhaps they don't let the little delinquent in ??

true.

I just didn't know that they could release information regarding young offenders.

Oh no wait... after you're 18 your record gets expunged... perhaps thats what I was thinking about.

I dunno... I always just thought they protected young offenders. Something I don't agree with but I am happy that they don't in this case.

Not sure if things would show up or not, I was more worried about my son who has the same name as his father wther it would of turn up his fathers record. Since his father never used any JR by his name and such, so when I brought my son in I made sure they put the III (3'd) next to his name I didnt want any more time spent fixing that mess.

I dont think they would keep them from following the rest of the family but who knows with them.

The "letter" is the checklist that Montreal or Vancouver sends you....called "Package 3", which you send back saying you've done, or are going to have done what's on the list. You get that when your petition gets to the Consulate. Someone may have a copy of the checklist, I don't know. I think the Vancouver checklist is on the Wiki page? Check this out.

Yes, I just checked, and there is a link on this page I posted that has the checklists.

Just wanted to mention Ontarkie, that you always have to have a birthdate when doing a police check, so with that, your ex-husband's record would never come up when they're checking your son. Doesn't matter whether they use Junior, III or whatever.
