I took my naturalization interview in the morning and I wanted to share my experience with you guys. We arrived at the Kansas city Immigration Office at 7:10 am (my interview was scheduled at 7:30am). There were already some people waiting outside (the office was not open yet) we stood inline and 5 minutes later they let us in. We sit down in the lobby and put my interview letter in the interview box by the door. Every 5 minutes a different officer came out that door to retrieve the letters from the box… That made me extremely nervous! I had to wait about 30 minutes and I was called in, my husband was allowed in too (that surprised me!). We both had to swear in and the officer started to go through my application…she asked me if I still lived at the same address and if I still had the same phone numbers ect…Then she asked me some random questions from the application (are you a terrorist??!!) she went through my passport and checked all the stamps and compared them to the application. She asked my husband when did we get married and if he was a citizen since birth…Then she wanted to see additional proof of shared finances so I gave her a recent bank account statement showing both names, a phone bill with both names and our 2008 tax return(she made copies)…She also asked to see the birth certificate for my son (it was already included in my application) I asked her if she wanted to see the original of my marriage certificate and she said no. After that I had the English test, that was very easy I had to read this phrase: What do we pay to the government? And I had to write: We pay taxes.

Then the civics:

1. Name one state that borders Canada

2. What freedom of religion means

3. How many US senators?

4. When the constitution was written

5. What is the capital of the United Sates

6. When must all men register for selective service

She said congratulations, you passed! You will get a notice in the mail on when and where to go to take the Oath (she said it will be in about 2 months). She also said that when I apply for the passport they will take my Naturalization Certificate original and I will be without proof that I am a citizen until they send it back to me with the passport (she said about 3 weeks). Then she said you guys can go celebrate!

That’s all!!
