Wow, I am really starting to panic here....

I am a USC filing on behalf of my Iranian fiance. We finally received our NOA2 after 8 months of waiting and now our papers are in Ankara, Turkey. I am beginning to prepare all of our documents to send and I came across some frightening information.

It was my understanding that the horrible process of Administrative Processing is conducted if they have any doubt during the paperwork, interview, or if the beneficiary's name has a hit in the database. Now it is saying that extensive administrative processing is required for all Iranian applicants and takes at least 12 weeks.

Can anyone say from personal experience whether this is the case or not?? I have talked to one woman who brought her fiance from Iran via Turkey and he was given his visa a few working days after the interview.

I dont know if the website is just saying that it happens for every Iranian applicant or if it is just a general statement.

I pray to God that this is not the case, I have been waiting to be with my fiance for over 8 mos now since we filed, I couldn't bear to tell him that he will have to wait at least another 3 to come here!

Thanks for any info that you can give me!

There are people here who could answer your post, I'm sure. However, you might get more answers if you post it in the regional forum for Iran! :)

Sorry I can't answer your question and good luck!

Well, you might be suffering a delay now, since President Obama is visiting Turkey, and the embassy is basically shutting down the visa process from Mar 23 to April 7.

Most of the very long AP's from Ankara involved men, since there names are more common, and in the database, it really depends on the situation of the application.

There are some cases of AP that are going on for a year or so.

Good luck and hang in there!

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Thank you so much, I wasn't aware that there was a regional forum, but I will be sure to check there too.

Yeah, I heard about the administration visiting Turkey, what wonderful timing!! ;)

I don't believe that my fiance has a name would would put him on any "watch lists" and I definitely have waaaaay too much documentation to prove our relationship (phone bills, pictures from 3 different trips to see him) so if it was going by individual cases then I would feel a little more confident, but if they go by the sole fact that he is Iranian, then I am very discouraged!

Normally, police certificates are not required from Iran, but I wonder if he was able to get one if that could speed up the process or perhaps prevent AP altogether. any ideas?? Sorry, Im so nervous!

You will be required to have a police certificate when he goes for his intereview. No matter what country, everyone is required to show police certificates for every country they have lived for over 6 months -since becomming an adult- at the interview. Before then, there is nothing else you can present, unless of course they ask you for more information. You said before that you had already received your NOA2....now, unfortunately, you just have to wait!

You Don't need a Police Certificate from Iran; And they are not acceptable documents, sending it would not help. Don't worry, WE all are going through it. look into the below link from the US embassy in Ankara.

http://turkey.usembassy.gov/media/pdfs/k1k2_010609.pdf

I am more afraid of getting the actual interview paper work in the mail than the AP :D

take it step by step, it would be easier

Good luck :)

I'm so happy to find someone else bringing their fiance from Iran! Are you as stressed out as I am right now? I even have a lawyer and I am so stressed and overwhelmed and worried about making a mistake! :(

I definitely know what you mean about being more worried about the forms than AP!

I got the same email from the embassy about what forms to fill out, the only thing is they are not the same forms that my lawyer is having me and my fiance sign. She emailed him a DS 156 to sign and I don't believe there was one in that email. Its little things like that that are making me so stressed out and confused!

Another thing, do you know what exactly we are supposed to send to the embassy and what we just need to bring to the interview? I know one of the links had a checklist but I feel like everything I read is contradicted somewhere else!

2 passport pics- do we mail these or bring them to the interview

birth certificate (shenasnameh)- do they need the original Farsi version as well, and do we mail it or bring it to the interview

passport-copy of everypage?

Sorry about all the questions....you know how it gets when you've been waiting for soooo long and you finally see the end in sight. I just want to do it right and get him here!!!

Thanks soooo much!

First of all good luck and a hope for a short journey.

My husband got his K-1 through Ankara, he is Iranian also. But his very common name left him in AP for 17 months. The good news is the process moves much much faster now so maybe yours will be a more reasonable wait.

We mailed everything in the packet, the Iranian ID card copy with an official translation, the photos, chat logs (about 100 pages) all the forms. He also took this with him physically to the interview just because you never know what they have lost or are too lazy to look for.

He did have a long wait for the interview, about 4 hours, but he said the entire interview took only 3 minutes. They did not request any additional evidence they did not ask him any real hard questions, they just pretty much verified his information and put him on AP

Good luck

Wow, seventeen months! What did you do for that long, how did you survive it??

If we get stuck in AP it is my plan to go to Iran to wait with him, but since I am a non-Iranian US citizen it does make it a little tougher...I have been there before, I'm sure he could get me another visa, but I doubt I could extend it for 18 months!!

I know I have the official translation of his birth certificate and the copy of his shenasnameh that we sent originally so hopefully that will be enough.

How long ago did you apply for your husband?

It has been 8 months right now dealing with USCIS and we've finally made it to the embassy stage. His name is not all that common and we are both going to the interview together, I pray that God will help us somehow and let him come back with me!!

I think it's a good idea to have him take his police certificate anyhow. I have friends that have benefited from doing this and I"m planning on doing this myself. Let me know how things go.

A recent post has been split from this thread, moved to the Middle East/North Africa regional forum, and given this topic title: "Any Iran K-1s Approved Recently (especially in Armenia)? [split topic]."

Old thread from 2009 is now locked.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
