Hi all, I have a quick question regarding the affidavit of support. I was recently laid off from work thanks to the crumbling automotive industry here in the motorcity and I'm getting $362 per week in unemployment benefits. Does that count as income, and should I include it in my I-864 application? By the way, both my parents and I live in the same house and I'm having them fill out individual I-864A applications, so the poverty guideline will be no problem at all.

Yes, unemployment benefits count as income. Make sure to provide evidence of this income when submitting the application.

While "income" is income, but you'll be indicating also that you are unemployed since a date. As a result, the poverty guidelines are going to need to be met by the joint sponsor(s). Your unemployment income won't be counted towards that because it is clearly temporary. Just give the facts, and if the other household members' income is sufficient, you shouldn't have any problems qualifying.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
