Hubby, me and the kids are all on Feathermoon:

Hubby, 80 rogue

daughter, 70something hunter (i forget cuz she plays infrequently since her accident

son, 76 DK (what other character is there for a 14 year old boy? lolol)

me, 80 prot pally

We just started playing a couple months ago and reached 80 pretty quickly via RAF triple xp bonus so there's probably alot of content that we've

skipped over along the way. I honestly don't know what our rush was and I'd like, to lvl up either a priest or mage and take my time enjoying the

sites along the way. Hubby doesn't see the point though so I probably won't for a while.

I've been learning so much about tanking and feel that I do a fairly good job keeping aggro off everyone and am always open to people's suggestions. I'm just curious what do more experienced players expect out of the tank?? I feel like everyone expects me to keep aggro on EVERYTHING, keep the dps safe, keep the healer safe (i know this is important lol), know what to pull all the time, work around pets & minions that run ahead of me and aggro something too far away (wth am I supposed to do about that??...I ask for a couple seconds to build hate and nobody listens), rez ppl since I'm a pally, I've healed others during battle when the healer is overwhelmed, I taunt anything that heads toward anyone else...what am I not doing? My def is at 540 (so supposedly i'm uncrittable for most bosses) and I use potions to increase it even more during instances. I'm working on my dailies to get better gear. I have read several pally tank guides, have glyphed and specced myself out according to the expert's suggestions, have gemmed the best I can so far, I know my spells & what generates threat and use I them. Yet every instance I do, someone has to give me unsolicited advice or tell me how to tank with my pally. I know I'm a noob, but I'm an educated noob lolol!! I don't know the instances, but I DO know my character. I'm soliciting your adivce...is this normal? Do tanks generally get the most criticism? It's getting to the point that I'm scared to do instances with anyone anymore. Our guild is awesome, but small and the main people aren't on much right now due to life issues. I have no choice but to pug with smartasses!

Quite normal about tanks getting a lot of criticism, healers get about as much IMO! . As a healer, I can tell you what I expect from not only the tank, but the overall group.

Keeping aggro is huge, but the raid should be running threat meters and someone other then you should be monitoring those during a fight and telling whoever is gettoing close to topping you, to hang back. Other chars have abilities that drop the aggro and they should use them. The starting rule in a fight is let the tank get aggro before other DPS'ers join in or send in pets. If they continuously yank aggro from you because a) their pet did or B) they've gotten too high on the aggro meter - they get what they deserve (I can't heal them out of it either, because half the time they're clothies). Yanking aggro makes the fight really tough since the tank is required to run around and get it back.

I do expect to be protected by someone if the baddy jumps on me...not necessarily by the tank, but someone who can yank off me. I learned early to NOT run way, but stand there and let them get the guy off me - nothing worse then some fool who keeps running around with their head cutoff.

I learned everything I know from my husband and his friends who run a tight approach to raid and fights in general. Too bad most peopel can't

As a healer....I don't cast heals 'pre-fight' on the tank as she/he runs in because it attracts aggro to me...something healers need to learn - there is a fine line to ensuring you don't yank aggro and screw the fight because the healer is dead. Some HOTS like lifebloom in my case don't seem to yank aggro because they proc on the char and it looks like they've healed themselves.

Anyhoo - I'll ask the hubster to comment, he has more experience being the major DPSer behind the tank and also tanking.

Oh we had something kind of cool happen last Saturday in Naxx. We were at Heigan and the whole group wiped on the first dance - except for my Husband (Shammy Healer) and one of our tanks (DK). That's my character beside the arrow - on the floor.

They two manned the fight - it took them 62 minutes

Oh we had something kind of cool happen last Saturday in Naxx. We were at Heigan and the whole group wiped on the first dance - except for my Husband (Shammy Healer) and one of our tanks (DK). That's my character beside the arrow - on the floor.

They two manned the fight - it took them 62 minutes

I've seen it 2 manned (in 10 man naxx) in 15 mins.

Mel and I met on another game, but we both play wow now. I've got an 80 gnome lock a 71 pali (prot to be), 70 rogue, and various twinks from lvl 19-39. I've spent too much time and money on them. But I really like being infamous

Mel has an 80 resto shamen, 71 warrior, 71 huntard, 78 DK, 71 boomkin.

LoL, I have to life tap all the time because of the tier gear bonus, and because I went full crit/haste/spell damage and didn't bother with any regen. 5k DPS is a lot harder to replace than a healer

Also I wonder, because people say this in trade chat all the time - the 5k DPS - where does that number come from? If i'm first in a fight at the beginning of a run I can get in the high 4k numbers - but it levels off after that - is that the number people quote?

Well, my boyfriend used to play it. I've always thought about it, but I have a pretty crappy PC and laptop, so I just stuck with FFXI because I can play it on PS2. I'm lazy with technology like that lol. Maybe one day!

Those numbers are at the end of a boss. I use recount as my DPS meter, but there are others that don't use up as much memory.

David and I met when he was our raid leader running kara etc.

He plays an 80 warrior 80, elemental shaman and various other orc alts.

I play an 80 belf hunter and an 80 druid tank.

currently we play on Kael'thas a nice carebear server that we left Burning Blade for.

i have no healers..but i mean c'mon..it's not that hard to mend pet lol truth be told my pet dies less than half the rogues i see

ugh..do i really wanna log in today with it being patch day?
