I am a green card holder. I with my wife (who is American citizen and my sponsor too) came to Pakistan about 2 weeks ago. When I tried to fill in the AR-11 form online, the website stated that it is only for the American address and for any foreign address you should contact US embassy in your country. So I called the US embassy in Pakistan and told them about my address change. But the guy whom I talked to, did not seem to understand as why I wanted to change my address in USCIS record. I tried to explain but he said that I don't need to change my address now but when I go back to USA, then I can inform USCIS about my address change.

My house in USA was rented one and I was planning to live in Pakistan for a longer period (may be for about a year) since I could not keep paying the rent, so I had to leave that house. Whenever I will go back I will have to find another house. I have given my friend's address to the post office to forward all my mail there. Now I want to know that do I have to inform USCIS about my address in Pakistan or not ? If yes, then how? because AR-11 is only for the USA addresses.

This is dangerous, to USCIS this looks like you are moving to foreign country to live permanently and giving up US domicile, this can get your green-card revoked, and also WILL affect you ability to file for naturalization within 3 years of LPR status married to US Citizen. Periods out of country will reset the residency requirement for naturalization.

Maintaining Permanent Residence You may lose your permanent residence status if you commit an act that makes you removable from the United States under the law in section 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. If you commit such an act, you may be brought before the immigration courts to determine your right to remain a Permanent Resident.

You may be found to have abandoned your permanent resident status if you:

  • Move to another country intending to live there permanently.

  • Remain outside of the US for more than one year without obtaining a reentry permit or returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.

  • Remain outside of the US for more than two years after issuance of a reentry permit without obtaining a returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.

  • Fail to file income tax returns while living outside of the US for any period.

  • Declare yourself a “nonimmigrant” on your tax returns.

If you have given up your home in the USA and are now living outside the US then how can you continue to be a LPR.

You are in danger of giving up your LPR status if you follow your plan to live outside the US for any length of time if you fail to maintain a home in the US.

You may find you are going to have to start over with a new immigrant visa when you wish to return.
