No operating bathroom at work? :o I'd demand my employer rent a port-a-potty at the very least! They shouldn't be able to get away with that. In fact, they are required by law.

We shouldn't have to rent it...the city or construction folks should take care of it.

Well, as far as I understand it - your employer is ultimately responsible to provide you with a safe work environment, even if it's the city who needs to do the repairs, if nothing is being done on their end, the employer must step in. Do you work for a small company?

Yep, only about 10 people here.

Ah, ok. Well, I know you've got husband to deal with too, but on the issue with your employer - seriously, they need to step up and rent a port-a-potty. They're not that expensive. You could even see if everyone would be pitch in and pay for the rental. It'd probably be cheaper than the gas you'd spend driving to go use another toilet. :)

Should be a mutual effort to make each others' life easier.

I mean a husband SHOULD care about the well being and comfort of his wife.

If that was my car, I would do all in my power to take it, especially if he doesnt need it.

On another note, I feel very bad for you not having any place to use the facilities..if you are anything like me you go like 20x a day, especially after drinking coffee.

Or they can pick a used one up from an abandoned construction site!

I'm totally in agreement with the portapotty lobby. (well, not a lobby made from portapotties...but you know what i mean). I find it incredible that your boss hasn't done that already.

Call the local govt business bureau people (it's probably not called that, but heck, just call your city hall, they should at least point you in the right direction) and put in an anonymous complaint perhaps?

As for the husband...car is yours (or at least half yours...depending on how marital property works in your state). Tell him that you will either be taking the car, or expecting him to go henceforthwith to the nearest battery store and getting a new one for your vehicle.

The starter was just replaced last year; I can't remember if it was a new or rebuilt one. The battery keeps testing at 14v (I think) which is over what it's rated at. When you try to turn on the car you can hear it spin but it's not catching. The "hard to start" condition started when I went to start the car Thursday morning.

sounds like the starting solenoid is fried. this is an electromagnetic coil about the size of a large pill bottle (on small cars) that is bolted to the side of the starter. when operating correctly it forces the starter shaft gear end outward into engagement with the teeth on the flywheel during starting.

if the starter is spinning but the engine isn't, it's definitely the coil. could be a bad wire going to the coil (a volt meter can test for this), but more likely is the field in the electromagnet. prolly this copper winding (field) is not insulated from the body of the coil assembly because the insulation on the wire is burned off inside the can (an ohm meter can test for this). on an older car it is possible to change just the coil. on newer cars the coil is integral to the starter.

rebuilt starters coming with attached coil often evidence coil failure, as the coil is not "rebuilt" in the remanufacture. it is difficult to test a coil for failing insulation. this kind of failure is sudden, but the onset is the result of cumulative exposure to a hot engine exaust manifold, usually. there should be a sheet metal heat shield between exaust manifold and coil to prevent such damage.

They have shut our water off for a day or two at a time and we go down the street to Hardees but they've started commenting on the number of people coming in there just to use the bathroom. There are only two of us that live close enough we can go home (with a car) to use the bathroom. I hope they get a temporary solution worked out quickly because the boss is leaving this week and will be gone for a month.

wow, i say...grab a waste can...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
