Does anyone know this?

When your file is at the Consulate - after you have received and sent back packet 3 - what do they do there? What types of searches?

They couldn't do criminal background checks, otherwise what is the point of US doing it for them? I am curious what the heck takes so long and what they search for.

I'm almost 8 weeks waiting for my interview date. Ugh.

to the best of my knowledge the consulate itself does no checking... at some point they could ask the FBI or some other law enforcement agency to do something but they do not do anything themselves

also, many consulates require some sort of applicant action to get to the next part... since you do not indicate what consulate it is hard to tell

My consulate is Montreal.

I am just curious why it takes so long at the consulate. We sent the forms, but the info is basically the same as all the forms I sent to USCIS for the I-129 f petition.

I am just not sure why we send the same type of info (employment history, education history etc.) to the consulate for THEM to process AFTER we sent it to the Department of State. I would assume once you are in the system, you are in the system. That's why I ask now, what do they do at the consulate of choice that they did NOT do through USCIS.

I don't know, I am just bored so thought I'd see if anyone knows :)

Montreal is painfully slow... I am not sure anyone really knows why... The consulate does nothing... Montreal is a outlier.... If you were at Vancouver I suspect you experience would be much differerent

When did you send employment history, education history, etc... to the Department of State... The consulate is a part of the Department of State

yeah, I just emailed Montreal yesterday, still waiting for a reply.

I know they are one of the busiest consulates, so it's not that I am being impatient. I am just curious as to what they do there.

I sent my packet 3 to them Jan. 19th.

I am not complaining really, it is what it is, I am just curious as to why we send the SAME info to the consulate as we did for the 1-129f petition. I am trying to think what was different. I sent them my picture on the DS230............and the checklist.............that's about all the NEW info they got. But what part of that takes so long??

Is it simply the fact that they have SO many files to process? I'm kinda thinking that when my packet 3 finally makes it to someone desk, it really only takes them 20 mins to process my paperwork. It is GETTING to the desk that takes so long. My 2 cents anyway, I really have no clue :P

OR....... do they do crazy tests on me and my name and background info. Any thoughts?
