We brought our daughter to the US approximately a year ago, and she will be needing to go to school this fall. Can someone please help us with the next step of the processing. Does she need the Work Permit? She is only 5 years old does she need that? Has anyone else been through this process and help us with the next steps in the process? Thank you.

Jason & Lyn.

Have you applied for her AOS yet? If so, you are done. If not, what are you waiting for?

She will need a work permit (EAD) or greencard (GC) to be able to get a social secuity number. I'm not sure if it is needed for school, but she needs to have one anyway.

Apply for greencard and work permit. Once the EAD comes, you can take that to social security and they will issue her a SSN.

Schools do not need the Greencard for enrollment. My daughter came here when she was 5 years old- no greencard or AOS. We enrolled her in a public school. All they needed was a proof of residence (to determind whether we belong to their school zone or not), a yellow form (for required vaccinations) and a bunch of forms to fill out. As for the yellow form, we went to the nearest local health center. The vaccination is free if it is for a minor and for school purposes. We also brought her vaccinatio records from the medical exam (visa application), and turned out, she's already complete. The nurse just then transferred the record to the yellow form. The next day, she started school.

But to start the whole thing, surf in the internet the county you live and the school district on where you belong. Make sure that you will know what school zone you are in.

Hope this helps.
