Hi, I went to St. Lukes yesterday to have my Day 1 medical done. I am with my daughter with a K2 category. minors dont do lab test so I had my xrays and all the lab stuffs. She had a skin test and I didn't had mines. I have a question, how do you know if the skin test will be positive? Remember the doctor encircled around the skin test shot? How is that ba? if the red mark goes outside the encircled portion, is that the indication that she is positive of TB? Hers is like red just within the circle, it didn't go over that. But if it does, is that positive of TB and what will happen? She can't travel with me anymore?

Thank you.

ang alam ko is kapag yung part na inenjectionan ay lumobo or umumbok eh positive sa TB skin test saka they will measure pa ang diameter nun. ang pagkakaalam ko is kpg ang diameter is more than 15mm then positive.

if the red mark goes outside the encircled portion, is that the indication that she is positive of TB? No, it's just indicative that she has been exposed to the virus causing TB. It's not unusual for people living in the tropics (like us) to get positive with the skin test. The most likely that they suspect of a patient who has had TB is the chest x-ray, if they find a scar. If they do, then they schedule for a sputum test or several other tests to point exactly if it's TB.

Having a poitive skin test doesnt necessarily mean you have TB.That means you are exposed to those who have TB and is susciptible o f having one.If the Xray is - then u dont have to worry. most cases positive ng test becoz of the BCG vaccine we had when were still young.

if positive of TB you will be under medication and u stll can travel only takes longer to get your visa..you should completely be cured first before allowed to travel.

They will measure the size of the red spot (the bump) if it is more than 10 mm it implies that you have a positive skin test and it doesn't mean that you have TB. A lot of people are just exposed to TB especially those who are working in medical field. You can determine TB through x_ray. I had my skin test too here in US before I filed for AOS. I had a positive skin test result and they had me an x-ray it is just a waste of money cuz I know I don't have TB. I already had an x-ray at st. lukes but because of my bump that measured 15mm I had a FALSE POSITIVE SKIN TEST. Don't worry usually it is only FALSE POSITIVE.

they will measure the bump.

my son who is under k2 category turned out positive with his skin test.

I've already asked my relative who's a doctor to take a look at it before we went to SLEC, she said it really looks negative so no need to worry, but when we get to SLEC they told me that it is beyond 5mm radius (6.5 to be exact) My son was then asked to have his xray. It turned out negative anyway

usually bcg vaccine gives false positive to tb skin testing. so you don't have to worry...

goodluck!
