My fiance has three elderly grandparents, and his late grandfather died before he had the chance to say goodbye - a very sad subject for him. Following this sudden loss, he has always been closer to his remaining grandparents, who are all elderly and could fall ill at any time. Would it be okay for him to apply for AP after we get married and then use it to possibly visit the UK around christmas time, after approval obviously? We don't know much about the AP system so any information would be useful and appreciated. Has anyone encountered any problems using the advance parole option? Thanks for reading.

For a K-1 it is OK to apply for AP for any reason...

YMMV

You can apply for AP for virtually any reason you choose - can't think of anyone who's been denied AP.

The way it would work is - when you get approved for it, they send you two (AP) documents - you leave the US (as normal) and upon re-entry show these two documents to CBP - they will stamp and retain one copy (you keep the other).

Simple and easy. (With any luck, you'll have your PR/Green Card before that and won't need the AP but definitely apply for it in the event something comes up...)

Enter the country on K1 visa and use the time before your marriage to start preparing your I-485, EAD and AP applications. That way you can submit them immediately you're married and, hopefully, speed up the process of getting your AP.

It's also free for EAD/AP if you submit them with I-485, payment required if you submit them separate from it.

I had the same issue with ailing family members, so I wrote a letter and included it with the AP application. I got it within 2 months of application so I know they can be compassionate.

Good Luck with your apps. :)

Oh wow thanks :) Makes more sense now! I wasn't sure if it was really hard to get AP and if it was only for cases of extreme hardship etc. Been wondering about it for a while! And as you said hopefully the green card process will be nice and quick so he can come in and out as he pleases! Just out of curiosity, do you come back through the 'foreign visitor' huge line or the more appealing US line?! No harm in asking for him!
