I am Canadian (Vancouver, British Columbia) and my fiance is American and currently living in Alaska. Our wedding is booked in BC for January 2nd, 2010, which is obviously leaning us towards the K3 visa route, since we already have a wedding planned in Canada. But I am SO confused as to which route to take - K3 or the IR1/CR1. I know people are saying you can abandon the K3 if it's taking too long, since you already apply for IR1, but how can you just switch? Is it MANDATORY that you live apart during the process? I don't really care if I can't work for a while when we are first married, since I plan to transfer to university up there in September 2010. I also read somewhere that you can stay for up to 90 days without having to worry about a visa, but is this valid during a visa application?

BASICALLY, I need help! What is the best option for me - we want to live together immediately after marriage, but I'm seeing that it's not really possible and I'm freaking out. Please help!!

Fiance visa is K1 which to my knowledge is the fastest of them all. If you want to go K3 or CR1 route you need to get married first. Good luck :star:

Well, a K1 is pretty much out of the question since our wedding is already booked for here...ie: deposits are all down, and we are both young (23 and 21) and want the big traditional wedding...I honestly think I would really regret not having anything just for the sake of getting married ASAP.

Another thing...could I possibly enter the country on a student visa WHILE my K3 or other visa is being processed?? Like I could apply for entering school in January 2010 and move there on a student visa while my immigration visa is underway?

You can come on student visa (F-1) and later file for “adjustment of status”.
