To the Mods:

I think you ought to retitle this section of VJ as "General Trolls"

I really don't think these types of discussions have any place here on VJ.

Most other topic specific forums I frequent don't allow or encourage this type of trolling.

I don't think anyone is going to openly admit to being racist. It's such an ugly idea. However, I do believe that the majority of ppl are prejudiced in some way. I don't believe humans can be completely unbiased like that.

anybody over the age of 12 is going to have prejudice. if prejudice is based upon experience, it's a self defense mechanism, and thereby a good thing.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Shooter - from what I've read, our primitive brain (the part of our brain that connects us to our ancient mammalian ancestors) has survival characteristics which may have once helped us stay alive way back when, but can now inhibit us from the complexity of socializing. You can't just say that instinctive traits are always good. Look at PTSD that many soldiers coming back from battle have had. They're reactions are so hyped up, that they cannot function in a normal setting. The advanced part of our brain tells us that such impulsive reactions are not only mostly inaccurate, but inhibiting.

I am racist. Maybe because I'm a nerd. I hate those loud latino music disturbing the neighborhood. Drive-by boom cars, a majority of morons. Heck, I rarely see a latino in Engineering school. I see mostly Indian, Viets, and Chinese.

When will these groups stand up and start to prove me wrong?

I agree mostly with what the majority of people have been saying here. That I don't consider myself racist but that we all have some prejudice and stereotypes that we hold.

To the poster that asked if they are racist because they are scared of black teenages more than white teenages.....who can say? I don't think I'd call you racist really...but maybe that you have fallen into a stereotype more than you should. Myself, I'm definitely not more afraid of black teenages then white teenages, I'm nervous around all of them! As others have said, when I'm out walking around by myself it doesn't matter at all what skin color you have. If I pass a group of guys (old, young, whatever), then I innately get nervous. On the same note, if I pass a group of younger girls (teenage) then I might get nervous too. But the old woman don't usually make me nervous. Maybe I'm just a wimp. :crying:

Plus I live in Brazil so my fiance's family is constantly telling me horror stories and telling me to be careful all the time, so I get extra nervous! I'm not saying that Brazil is more dangerous necessarily, I'm simply saying that it can be more dangerous for me because I'm a silly little American that only speaks half-Portuguese and doesn't necessarily understand how things work here :innocent:

It's still very difficult for me when I walk into the narrow tunnel underneath our local train station at 8pm to cross over to the other side and I see three black kids loitering in it, doing nothing. Still makes me a little nervous, even though I've been in the situation a million times and they've never done a thing. It's pretty irrational.

You want an entire race of people to extricate themselves from their day to day lives and devote themselves to the sole purpose of proving you wrong?

Wow.

LOL. Obviously, I'm no racist. The ones in my neighborhood are welfare recipients who spend their money on amplifiers, etc...soup up their cars to blast the neighborhood. I like to make fun of them.

It sounds like you have subconcious prejudice. I have that too in those situations - and I can't rationalise it because I really have no reason to be. I've never been the victim of a crime by anyone so there's no reason I should feel apprehensive about that situation - unless I've somehow developed preconceptions based on what I've been exposed to in the media.

It does show that racism is pervasive and its not restricted to what you might imagine a racist to be.

It's not just the media. It's also stuff you hear from people you know. I've never been the victim of a violent crime (property crime, yes, but I don't know who did it) but people I know have. And they tell stories. And then you see certain things aligned just a certain way IRL and suddenly it almost matches up with what you've read and heard and ...

Move somewhere nicer. If you're half as successful as you say you are, you can afford it.

good point...we have considered that...however, the asian market is close by...my wife prefer asian cuisine...therefore, i can't really do anything but tolerate.

During the marriage ceremony, did you cut off your balls and hand them over to her?
