no on both questions

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I don't think anyone is going to openly admit to being racist. It's such an ugly idea. However, I do believe that the majority of ppl are prejudiced in some way. I don't believe humans can be completely unbiased like that.

I would agree with you. I just kept it simple.

Due to the complexity of the issue or my lack of ability to put it in words I did not ask what I wanted to. In fact, I am very much interested in knowing where the similarities among races begin and where they end? Is it only skin deep? Are some races really smarter than others as some (controversial) research suggests? If yes, how can we ever ensure social and financial equality in a capitalistic society where in large parts you are rewarded based on your wits.

If you read the book Blink, you'll find out most people are some what raciest. Even the author (who is half black) found out he was a little raciest towards black people! There is a website that shows faces and words and you have to make association and it "tests" your level of racism by checking response times.

I have always thought that the label racist only applies to people who really believe that one, there are different races among humans, and two, that the so-called 'white' race is superior to all other races. They would own literature on it....probably belong to a group or organization that promotes that mindset.

For everyone else - I think we all have our own bias or prejudices towards different people. The difference is that most of us try not to let it affect our behavior, while others wear it like a badge of courage.

As many of us at Visa Journey have found out, there are cultural differences between us and our spouses. If all you see is the differences, then I suppose that would be racist. If you celebrate the differences, is that being racist?

I don't think culture equals race. People can have vastly difference cultures and still be of the same race.

This is precisely how I see racism. It's also heartening to see such a post from one of VJ's more openly liberal, leftie types.

Again, spot on. I find the thought of somebody being denied the same opportunities as myself, as a caucasian (i.e. promotion at work, decent housing, good tables at restaurants, etc etc) as abhorrent as anyone. But having said that, I'm no left-wing poster boy either. For example, if somebody is driving like an azz and cuts me up in traffic, and that person happens to be white, then that individual will be berated in a manner such as, "you ###### jackass." Whereas if the culprit is one of our ethnically different bretheren, then the insult will invariably have a racial conotation added to it.

So to summarise, I suppose I am a bit racist, but in no way shape or form do I consider myself a hater.

That's about as honest as I can be.

Well, someone can say or doing something that is racist, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are a racist (as in a card carrying member of the KKK). The word 'racist' has evolved to mean more than just someone who belongs to the Aryan Brotherhood, but IMO, it's best to be cautious who we actually label as racist. Someone may have racist tendencies, but would reject anyone labeling them one or even stating they are in the safety of anonymity.

We just need to constantly work towards tolerance for those who are different from us.
