Check the processing timelines for other Vancouverites and see how long K3s are taking. Then look for Canadian CR1s thru Montreal and see how long they're taking. Then price out a flight to Montreal, figure out total costs for both scenarios and see what you come up with. And remember when you're figuring costs, your spouse will not be able to work for several months after entering the US with a K3, so there is also loss of income to consider, as well as the AOS fees.

Not to mention the several months of bordom! ;)

it seems like I can only look up the time line by country and visa but not by cities (Vancouver vs Montreal), and advice on how to get that info.

Thanks

Well, if you're going to be married, and it was suggested that the CR-1 might be the best option so that your fiance could work and travel as soon as she gets to the US, then you need to know that the only place they do interviews is Montreal. So, that might narrow your search.

Here are some links to threads for people waiting, and their timelines that might be helpful:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94768. This is the CR-1/IR-1 wait list. Again, the first entries were some time ago, but will give you an idea of wait times.

There is also information you may want to check out on the Wiki page:

As well, there is a Canada forum here for people going through all these types of visa from Canada. There are tons of tips and tricks for you to learn and read about. Please join us there for more information or specific questions.

If she's working however in Canada, she could apply for EI once she comes to the US and the EI benefits could supplement their income until she can get her work authorization.

Actually, I think she's not eligible for EI until after she's got her EAD as well. One stipulation of Canadian EI is that one must be ready, willing, and able to work. If she doesn' have EAD, she is not able to work.

K1s can apply for EI pretty much as soon as they get their visa, but not K3s.
