I'M HAVING TAX NIGHTMARES !!!

I work in Qatar. I am planning to DCF in about 3 weeks

If I file married filing separately how bad will that look at the interview ? I am planning to DCF in about 3 weeks

I I file married filing jointly and the spouse did not have any income what do I have to attach to show that the foreign spouse didn't have any income ?

It's almost April and I can't figure out what to do. It doesn't help that in the past H&R block did my taxes. Now I'm in a foreign country, with no help, and tax stupid

1 : maried separate or married joint doesn't matter. You are still filing married

2 : not knowing your whole tax picture, you may pay more filing separate. I assume you didn't list an occupation for your spouse on any of the forms you filed or will file.

3 : get tax help...I have a client working in Qatar this year and it can get confusing when analyzing married separate/joint and foreign tax credit/income exclusion.

Best of luck

Yes. I had income in the US last year, so I had to file. We sent ours off 2 weeks ago with the W7 application.

You know if your an USC, if you make wages(income) outside of the country, your suppose to file for that also!

I only say this because my tax consultant was hammering on that with me during my tax filing...

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

If your spouse doesn't have income, then it make more sense to include them as you get more deductions, and thereby owe less taxes. If they had income, it may be easier to seperate, but a tax consultant could tell you that. Are you paid by a US company or a foreign company? If its a US company, the taxes are pretty straight forward. If its a foreign company, I would consult a tax specialist.

Yes, but I only had income from the US.
